Hitman could have had alot more freedom and stuff. But its not like dishonored has that much freedom, its still pretty linear. There are just 2 levels or so where you can actually approach stuff multiple ways. The rest is just linear. But yeah matter of opinion I guess. |
Compared to Hitman it does have a staggering amount of freedom. The levels aren't bigger in area, but guess what? You can use their volume as well (play them vertically). Even in a ridiculously linear, straight forward level like The Royal Physician there's more ways to get through it than in the first 6 levels of this game combined.
Spoiler: | Take the Terminus Hotel for example. My first instinct when that level loaded was "right, how am I going to get up those fire escapes". |
Add to that the broken disguise system (strap on the right disguise and noone gives a shit even if you'd teabag them, but oh dear, let them have a glance at your right ear in one of their own uniforms and you're fucked ) and I can't say I can really give this one any points on the freedom part.
The broken disguise/detection mechanics are in fact starting to annoy me, a lot. They are so terrible (and no, I haven't bothered using the fixes from previous page yet, need to do that tonight) that I'm actually doing full ghost/suit just because I can't be bothered dealing with the other bullshit. So far, this is another Rage: wasted potential. The engine is fine (albeit too bloomy for my taste), animations are decent, sound is good, story is told well - but the actual game mechanics got fucked up :/

i disagree, i think Hitman has more replay value than dishonored, simply because dishonored is way too easy and doesnt feel rewarding when taking down an enemy or even evading them, its just too easy with those powers, and without them the game is meh, it was one of the games i was most hyped but i was disapointed. Hitman Absolution ive been enjoying it alot, i already see myself replaying the levels and trying different stuff, like suit only etc etc.

So did anyone play long enough with the tweaks to the disguise system to comment on balancing issues?

So I see some people are having problems getting HA to run on Vista 32. Has anyone got this running on Vista x64, though?

I've quickly tried the ai_DisguiseDetectionDistanceMultiplier mod and it's so much better.
Enemies spot you only when you're not careful enough (no more magical eagle sight) and the detection system works almost like in Hitman 2.
You still need to stay away from the guards of course, but the press-abutton-to-hide Instinct finally can go fuck itself since it's not "mandatory" anymore. Me likey!

Hitman Absolution in the UK is the best selling (at launch) Hitman game, selling 3x the amount of copies Blood Money did (again at launch, but logically, it'll be the best in lifetime sales as well).
Congrats. |
And so the public sent the message that instinct is fucking awesome and the next Hitman game will feature more awesome buttons.

Isn't that a bit too extreme? I don't like frustration, but making it too easy is the opposite side of that spectrum.

I found dishonored a lil bit too easy. Im finding Hitman is way more challenging (ofc, depends on how you play).

Was testing several values for the ai_DisguiseDetectionDistanceMultiplier and I think that 0.3-0.4 is indeed the closer one to the "old" Hitman games (ie. Silent Assassin), people do detect you if stay in front of them for more than a couple of seconds whereas nobody notices you if you keep walking without hesitation (and following the right routes).
