that explosion at the end was very disappointing
5MT thermonuclear my ass, looked like a <100kT fission bomb
I was waiting for the second sun but it never came
there was a chance for nolan to put in some really memorable imagery and he let it slide
@oldtimer I will soon upload a version to USENET that has been specially cropped, to use the 16:9 frames as they are and the 2.35:1 frames cropped to 16:9 with a little AviSynth magic. It was encoded for a friend's phone, but you might enjoy it.

Fits perfectly in my opinion with the whole somewhat ridiculous theme of the movie.
Oh wow just saw it. I never expected it to be let down by a Batman Nolan film but I was.
Trying not to spoil much here:
I was looking for a payoff that never came. Bane was building and building as a mysterious/powerful/evil character and then *poof* he went away.
Same with the bomb I guess.
Basically I didn't like a lot of things and for the things I was liking I was hoping there would be a pay off in the end.
Things I didn't like include the Ras cameo, that felt unneeded and thus cheap. The pit/jump and the resolution of that arc, didn't look impressive at all to me, they could surely have filmed it better. I didn't really care for the twist, and again, how the true mastermind was dealt with felt anticlimatistic to me.
Alfred's gone for most of the movie? Boo
I did like Cat Woman a lot, but I'm not terribly convinced she's what Bruce is looking for. I mean something's serious.
And more..
Far from being a bad movie, but really.. what went wrong?
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."

"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
it's even more annoying when i really liked how they made him be all broken now and cat woman was perfect in my opinion
there would have been so many better ways to do the story
batman locked up at the other end of the world was just retarded
should have had him there, back broken and helpless
perhaps even exposed as bruce wayne
maybe not even have him recover at all and have grayson take the batman role
with the whole speech about not being able to kill an idea and all that from the earlier films
Bane was excommunicated because......... he was reminding Ras of what happened to his wife.
WUT
That's the reason he was excommunicated? I mean really now? How can this be a serious reason to excommunicate the protector and friend of his daughter.
My mind during the explanation scene ->

Going so slow -.- Stupid shit PowerPost 2000
nice one cheers, but i'm happy enough with the 1080 imax for now.
i've watched it twice & though a decent film i don't find it as good or as rewatchable as many times as the previous 2 in the series.though i'll still buy all 3 when i get a bluray drive for the pc next month.
First up, Hitfix says that according to their sources, Joseph Gordon-Levitt absolutely will be appearing in the upcoming "Justice League" movie as the new Batman.
This has been speculated about in the wake of the ending of "The Dark Knight Rises." What's most interesting about this report isn't just that JGL could appear in the role for 'League', it's that he might grace our screens in that role a wee bit earlier than expected.
"They're a long way from filming anything 'Justice League' related, but they appear to be solidifying deals for Gordon-Levitt and, potentially, at least one other actor from the Nolan films to do… something" says HitFix's Drew McWeeny. He goes on to speculate this could be a cameo at the end of "Man of Steel."
The upside of such a casting move is that 'Rises' then pretty much serves as the origin movie of the League-incarnation of Batman - getting all that backstory out of the way.

Given they built a monument for Batman for sacrificing himself to save their city, I don't see someone else posing as Batman again. If I were a Gotham citizen I would think the new dude has a bad taste for posing as someone who died to save me and my city.
But anyway the "you should use that name" suggestion, was a pretty clear indication what name he would use. It's one thing if it was just revealed his full name was Robin John Blake (just a nod for the fans) and another for him (and the audience) to be told he should start using it.

remember, "The Batman" is an idea, not a person. They keep repeating that (famously said by Alfred). He wears a mask for that very reason
Right, and the fixed light bat on the police roof was for chills and giggles and obviously not meant for use.
I wasn't aware that light thingy projected "Batman" I thought it only projected the symbol of a bat. No reason to start calling himself Batman.
My interpretation of the ending was (and still is!) that Blake will use the Robin handle (due to that suggestion) and bat related symbolism (due to his "birth" scene with the bats flying around him in the bat cave).

that idea was thrown out the window in tdk. when batman himself says no one else can be batman. and other stupid shit. the idea was there in episode one. rise of the symbol. the idea was lost in episode two (well the citizens had the idea but batman hated that others posed as him) and the idea came back in the third one.
that robin thing was just bull shit. to put robin in there. they could've given him a different name and he could pose as batman. but nope... lets call him robin. srsly? lol. especially since he plays a character that was in the comics. at least in one issue.
obviously he should continue as the batman. but knowing how the idea / story will continue without nolan... he'll be robin avenging the bat and killing bad guys until batman shows up and goes all NO NO NO! KILLING PEOPLE IS BAAAAAD!
Why would he use any other moniker than Batman? He is given the Batcave to continue the symbol.
As far as I know, Robin uses the batcave as well. And why would they kill of Batman if 'Robin' was to be the new Batman?
Nah, to me the ending was pointing towards Joseph Gordon-Levitt being a new hero that Gotham needed. Robin or Nightwing, certainly not Batman.
But then again, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stated that the ending of The Dark Knight Rises is the true conclusion of Christopher Nolan's Batman series and not the start of something else.
So he could be the new Batman unrelated to this movie?
Who said they killed "of" Batman? The last time Batman was seen, he was taking a nuke. Imagine the effect it would have if Batman was to come back, being stronger than a nuke.
Are you saying Blake would try to fool the Gotham citizens that he's the same dude that saved their city?

Robin doesn't exist (it's just a name - not to be confused with Dick Grayson[who is robin]). Batman is a dark knight. a symbol for gotham. So anyone can become the symbol to give people hope, but only one can actually do it as a hero.
So yeah, blake should become batman. But that won't happen. he'll become robin / nightwing. because fuck logic.

Well, based on the rumors he IS the new Batman. So logic remains unfucked.
