Does anyone know if it's now possible to play movie iso files on a PS3 running CFW? From what I can gather, it was a feature possible with the Cobra dongle. Now that we're done with dongles, did any other software implement this feature?

PS3 media server installed on my computer and linked to my download folder. I wirelessly stream everything to my Ps3, in high quality and with subtitles. No hassle, no configuration needed and the best media player experience i have ever had.

Shenanigans, the PS3's wireless can not sustain a proper 1080p stream wirelessly (haven't tried wired yet). Its wireless antennas are fucking terrible, there's quite simply not enough bandwidth. 720p might be doable, I haven't been able to make Showtime work properly yet without transcoding like you need to on OFW (and in that case, quality is not high, not by my standards at least).

You may want to try XBMC, MediaPortal w/ StreamedMP or even ACRyan's latest devices. You'll see how shit even Showtime is

ps3 for streaming with universal media server (newer version of ps3mediaserver)
a core-i7 cpu over lan (no wireless bs), works perfectly at 1080p and extremely high bitrates.

Anyone else on Rogero 4.30 having massive network issues? I can't download shit from the PSN store, shit errors out every single time, even small downloads. Generally research tells you to turn off the media server thing, but I did that, didn't fix anything.
Also even when downloading super small files from PSN, like a patch or something, something that's only like 37MB, takes like 15 minutes, fucking ridiculous.
Anyone else having these problems?

Yes!!! Actually I didn't even associate my problem with Rogero, but come to think of it idk if I've downloaded anything successfully since I was on KMEAW. I tried updating MultiMAN last night and it was downloading slower than 56k, I gave up and just downloaded it manually and put it on a USB stick. If Rogero is the problem, would be curious if anyone knows a fix.

I heard you need to delete your account off your ps3 and recover it, it should fix your issue.
Hint : sync your trophies before, and backup your savegames.

Yah not too long ago, like maybe a couple weeks ago, I did a COMPLETE format of the drive, and I didn't even back ANYTHING up.
Re-created account from scratch and still, downloads error out and are super slow.
Every other device on my network (360, PC, Wii, Vita, 3DS, NDS, iPad, iPhone, etc) works perfectly fine.
Even tried the PS3 over wireless, wired LAN, same results. :\

Because you have not expeirenced..or at least truly expeirence the beauty of what a home theater PC can do to your HDTV...all these "smart hdtvs", consoles uses as media centers, WesternDigitial's attempt with their home theater box,etc...none of them, not a single one even comes close to what can be done and the features offered by having a home theater pc connected to your main living room HDTV...i been doing it since the early 2000's and never looked back..even the great old original xbox with XBMC ..how great as it was for a media center..i never used it much..well i did for my bedroom tv but thats it..my main big screen had a HTPC and to this very day i am still into the HTPC thing..upgrading ever 4 years or so.
rayida wrote: | Because not all of us have the room for a HTPC in our entertainment centres. |
That's no excuse..they have been making slim-line pre-built pc's and custom cases for custom built pc's since the early 2000s. I was one of the very generation of guys utilizing a computer on trhe first gen HDTV"s via All-in-wonder ATI 9800 Pro that came with component out which my HDTV at the time supported, my first gen HDTV had hdmi but no videocards at the time supported it ..not even any adapters for it lol..so i was one of the first to jump on the big screen home theater pc bandwagon. I use to have people come over and i would get mixed reactions..some would totally freak out and say i want a setup just like yours!!!! ...while other people would think it was a stupid idea...i kid you not..out of the 5-6 people that all thought it was stupid, etc to have a computer running on my big screen in the living room.. a few years later each one and i literally mean EVERY ONE of those people that thought it was stupid called and asked me to build them a home theater pc for their new HDTV...it was almost like either they were jealous or simply couldnt comprehend at the time how much it was such a great idea to have a computer as your media center in the living room because at the time they were still in the SD age *standard definition tv age*...soon as each one got a HDTV..they called me up and they must of realized what a good idea i had at the time. I am not saying i was the very first guy doing it..but during the time..i had tons of online fans..mostly hardcore computer enthusiasts and not a single one of them had a home theater pc like i did.
Go for one of these baby's...you can have dell put in the parts you select for a price you want to spend, they are pretty bad ass PC's that are smaller or around the same size of current consoles http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/pd
With the prices of PC parts todays..you can make a pretty rock'n home theater pc in a slim line case rather cheap, i have this case here that looks like a stereo receiver, i have a high end ATI videocard, sound card although sound cards are sorta overkill now days so you really dont need one..just use the hdmi to save bucks for sound... my setup plays everything at max..nothing even makes it struggle..atleast not yet..its about 6 year old setup. This computer case i bought in the pic below..i actually bought it for 150 bucks brand new as the case ..that particular model in the pic came out about 4 years ago but they still sell them if you can find them..there are better ones out there but this bad boy looks kick ass under my big screen ..i got a pair of two Boston acoustic front speaker towards, two infinity 12 inch powered subs one sits on each side of my Panasonic top of the line Viera model 2011 58inch HDTV, a Boston center speaker and two Boston rear speakers, i am content with 5.1 surround sound although i may up it to 7.1 but the difference is not that much great, its minimal imho ..what counts is the PQ and just some strong clear solid surround sound..you dont need to go all out like i did but i am a home theater nut so i usually go high end with everything and let it last 4-5 years before selling and upgrading ..oh and i got a Pioneer Elite SC-68 A/V Receiver which retails over two grand and i got it at a scratch and dent display model for 1500 with a free 3 year warranty upgrade ...the yamaha is simply amazing, i cant explain in words but one of the best and most important things anyone can do for best picture quality is go find a professional hdtv calibrator and have your hdtv professionally calibrated..the PQ from before and after will literally make your mouth drop ..there is just so much crap in the service mode of a HDTV that is not optimized that when optimized can make a 1000 dollar hdtv have a PQ of a 2000 dollar hdtv, I paid around 2500 for my Pansasonic by the way..make sure to get a warranty ..stick with plasma's ..they are still king of rich dark colors and the blacks are still blacker than any other affordable HDTV's out there ...
NFOAC wrote: | I sometimes fail to understand why ppl use console to watch movies |
Me too!! Even a mid range pc connected to a HDTV with a mid range video card and some good software movie players installed and tweaked..any bluray 1080p rip like a x264 8-10gb rip will blow away any high end blu-ray player and actual retail pressed blu-ray movie on disc... i just cant explain how much better a PC can do at video playback than a very high end blu-ray player can do if you know how to tweak your pc software video players like VLC player, Media Player Home Cinema edition,etc..
A pc connected to a hdtv is the ultimate home theater setup, period..no console even can compare to it. get a decent wireless mosue and keyboard and kick back on the couch like i am doing now and surf the net, stream movies from various sites, etc as well..its the ultimate home theater setup you can possibly get and you do NOT need to go high end..you can do it with a low-to mid range pc just as long as you got at least a dual core and a decent video chip/card in the rig.
