Because the difference is the people that have it worse, have no CHOICE about it being worse and live that way everyday. Many of them pray for the day they have even one option of how to change it for the better.

He has choices in a life that isn't that bad but can make it better, but doesn't seem to want to act on them.

Im only speaking from my viewpoint. But there was a time 4 of us(wife and kids) was living in one room in the back of someone elses house, right after I got out of doing time and was limited on my options of moving forward, and those we was living with pretty much TRIED to make our life living hell because of my 'criminal record' they saw me as scum and didn't care about us.

I got up, decided I didn't like living that way, Sold everything that I didn't need, took a job I HATED because it paid more than what I was doing currently, and saved money to make my life better.
No one could change my life but me. No amount of bitching about the people making the rules, changed anything. Only option was get away from those being able to impose those rules. Even if it meant my life getting WORSE for 6-7 months, I knew it was getting worse so I could make it better.
I worked a job that kicked my ass everyday..My life for 6 months:
I worked, slept from exhaustion of working 12 hours a day of overtime and weekends whenever they would let me, and dealt with it knowing 'its only a matter of time..dont give in now"..that was ALL i did.

I like dingo a lot, and hes a smart guy. But there is a difference between "My life sucks, and I cant change it" and "My life sucks, and i'm so depressed I don't have the motivation to change it".
No ones going to give you motivation but yourself. Use the control others are tying to imply on you to motivate yourself to take control, realize they only have control because you let them, the more you do for yourself, to make yourself independant, means less they can control you.

And i bet you complained through the whole ordeal yourself even though there are people out in the world in a worse situation.

I don't think just leaving while going to school is a good idea at all, if he doesn't have a safe and stable place to go.

I complained up until the point I realized all I was doing was complaining and letting it stay the same, flopping around in my self pitty of what I was being not using that frustration to empower me to fix it.
That my complaining was my way of going "This sucks, and I want to let everyone know how bad it sucks so they can agree with me misery love company".
I didn't want people agreeing it sucked, that didn't help me at all. I wanted to change it so I DIDN'T have a reason to complain to start with.

And im not saying he is me, or that we are anything alike.

I'm just saying if I went to prison while in college, got kicked out of college for it, almost lost my wife and kids for having to deal with my time inside, to get out and be forced to share one room with people that HATED us, and and no way to take back what I made wife and kids go though while doing time, and after while living with 'friends'...

And managed to get a shitty construction job, go BACK to college to finish, Make up the wrongs I did to my wife to make amends, and managed to move forward to make it all better, by knowing its going to be a hard, uphill battle, and suck ass to do so...HE can to if he decided to.

I had a previous record, time in prison, and a LOT more against me than he does. His options are far and wide compared to what a guy fresh out of his first felony conviction has. Hes got a whole life ahead of him to decide on. Mine was doomed the day I got out unless I fought to save it.

If nothing else..Im NOT going "LOOK i had it worse!"

I'm going "look even with all the CRAP I had, Im showing it is possible by a personal example..its hard, and draining..but IS possible"

If your parents can't accept you because you happen to like men, then flip the plonkers the bird. Ask your sex friend if you can move in with him for a while, and try to find a part time job.
I hate intolerant bastars. It's 2012! It's okay to be gay!

All I learned in this life is that it's you against the world. Expect nothing from nobody and rely 100% on yourself. Fairness and understanding are a luxury. A LOT of patience and tolerance is necessary to get anything done. Well unless you're BP's CEO.

My sex friend found a boyfriend (who is a model, perfect, has a great life and xxl cock Rolling Eyes), so that's definitely out of the question.

Well, seeing how I'm about to be alone for at least a year, I can just pretend that I'm just this weird guy who focuses on uni, like I've been doing for the last 24 years Sad

Yes, life sucks. And, really, when I look at my friend, who has such tremendous life problems (she lost her mom due to cancer, and when her mom was alive she had to take care of her, her step dad married some bitch, and now she lost the man that raised her, and her biological father is knee deep in financial problems. She is living with her bf but they are barely holding on), my stupid little gay issues seem so insignificant.

But they hurt non the less. So far, all I can say that life is this giant compilation of shit being thrown at your face, and you are doing your best just trying to hold on...

Damn, I really don't know where I keep finding the strength to hold on Sad

Strengh to hold on? Could be because you have a grander vision for the future of your life or maybe you just want to see how it all ends. Smile
Being just out of the closet I assume a lot of shit must come your way in the beginning and you're just getting accustomed to it until you become independent and true master of your life. Your problems are still real issues in your life that only you can deal with and overcome. We're dealt different cards in life and to each his responsibility in overcoming his obstacles. Granted some are more fucked up than others but that's life.

There has been some talk on here about how so many people have it so much worse. Thinking that way and looking at the unfortunate things others go through never made me feel better either. It did give me a perspective on my own problems. I have an unbelievable amount of stuff going on right now and I can't let my fear take ahold of me and bring me into depression or self pity. I really feel my life is at stake.

The biggest issue I think is my mom. She hates me, even tho she said she doesn't - but when she implied that me being gay is sickness or that I can choose, it was kinda clear to me what she thinks of me.

It reminds me a bit of the relationship I have with my parents and the way they think of all my emotional/personality disorders. Though in my case it's the other way around. Instead of taking seriously my borderline personality disorder, social anxiety disorder or whatever else I had been diagnosed with; they're thinking I'm just weird and apparently expect me to live a perfectly normal life.

Well I guess it's how parents behave :\

There is no peace until we get on our own. I am just waiting that day when I move out Smile

That day will come. Personally after all these years I would love to be able to move back home. I got so much going on it would be nice to come home to a house of decent food and someone else cooking it. Just for a while anyway. My parents have mellowed out in their later years. Things change

Things will eventually work out, they always do and sometimes when you least expect it.

Just a few years ago I made a thread here about having absolutely no friends. That was quite a shitty time in my life and I remember thinking things will probably not change. Now 5 years later, my friendships are thriving and Im happier now than I ever was

Eventually youl move out and live a good life
