I am pretty sure that guy was who he said he was.
Also on that subject and on Peter revealing himself... in the last scene, Peter described the circumstances in which Cecil ended up in the "pocket", but it was never actually mentioned in his presence, if I am not mistaken? I thought Walter would have picked up on that, and this would be that reveal by mistake...
Although it's possible that it's assumed that they had talked about it "off screen" (didn't seem like it though), or it was an oversight by the writers. Or maybe I am just missing something Smile

Then it could cause some paradox but this is Fringe and TV so we could end up getting some mindblowing shitfuck things happening.

I love how Peter used the Fringe event from the pilot. It was... quite jaw dropping.

But the observers are from 500 years into the future. How would that work?

It's chock full of cliches and boredom. And reading about these parallel timelines above, think I'd better skip it.

I had heard it was kinda like X-Files, but noooooo it's not.

It kind of is. Two partners working together to solve mysterious crimes. Neutral with an overall story. You have to watch at least at few episodes and get used to the characters. Walter is pretty much a good reason to watch it.

It gets better around the middle part of first season.
But then again... you might not like it at all. Don't look for any "real" science it that show.

Yeah, even JH Wyman admitted season 4 was a mistake. I wish he'd realised that before they fucking made it.
