Was their big security update changing the password requirements to including numbers, lower and upper case letters?
Just logged in on my secondary account to see if my stuff was still there, origin fucks up with the old and correct password(surprise! ) and when I try to change it it tells me that the new one has to fulfil those requirements... but can't be longer than 16 characters.

Hmmmz new Origin update asks you to create a new security question, eh?
But hey, for the first time it didn't fuck up the password on one of my accounts like it happened with any of the previous updates...

Looks like my Origin has completely dodged the update, maybe it's not up yet for Italy . Good to see that they're making improvements, I'm using it more than Steam lately.

Quote: | Bug in EA’s Origin game platform allows attackers to hijack player PCs
"The Origin platform allows malicious users to exploit local vulnerabilities or features by abusing the Origin URI handling mechanism," ReVuln researchers Donato Ferrante and Luigi Auriemma wrote in a paper accompanying last week's demonstration. "In other words, an attacker can craft a malicious Internet link to execute malicious code remotely on [a] victim's system, which has Origin installed." |

EA Origin client finally adds achievements for supported games
Quote: | Today we start rolling out a new update to Origin, designed to refresh parts of the interface, add features for power gamers, and improve the experience for gameplay broadcasters.
If you already opted-in to Origin beta updates, you'll be prompted to update to version 9.2.1 of Origin later today (for PC; the Mac update rolls out tomorrow). The rest of the Origin community will receive the update in the weeks to come. As always, if you’d like to try out the latest update, opting in to Origin betas is simple (and free).
After downloading this update, you'll notice that we've revamped the look and feel of the Application Settings menu. For PC users, if you've been broadcasting your gameplay, you'll appreciate the new ability to auto-archive your broadcasts. For you power gamers with muscular 64-bit systems on either PC or Mac, the new multilauncher will give you additional options for taking advantage of your hardware when starting up supported games. Finally, you can now keep track of all the achievements you've completed in Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and Dead Space 3 on your Origin profile page. Start playing those games after updating Origin, and watch your Origin Point total (displayed underneath your name) increase by completing their achievements.
We hope you enjoy the new Origin update. Your feedback and suggestions for future updates are always welcome, just drop us a note in the comments section below. |
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

(Program itself can be set to English language but all updates and other messages will still be localized to the OS region setting.) |
that part pisses me off no end... their fucking shop defaults to german for me (and my german is weak... ), cos of the geo location and theres no way to change it... which results in me definately not going to buy anything from their store... my settings are for english-gb but even the account information is in fucking german.. i emailed them before about it and was told theres nothing they can do.. which is total bollocks
then when you see how their actual 'drm' works, its a joke, and how some of the portions of the 'engine' are based on code from codeproject (for their hooking) and other 3rd party stuff (in particular the wmi queries which is terribly coded)... makes you really wonder about their whole system...
ea - you cant polish a turd.. its as simple as that, but yeh, you've managed to take peoples money and run after selling them a turd but that only lasts so long...

Yeah after the bundle galore Origin has never worked properly, it's offline for several hours a day and the servers are permanently struggling. EA really need to hire better monkeys!

First Microsoft dropping GFWL and now this ........am i dreaming ?
Introducing The Origin Great Game Guarantee
We know that feeling: the one where you sit down, wait for a new game to finish downloading and installing, start it for the first time, and want it to rock. The intro sucks you in, you press a button to shoot, jump, or talk for the first time, and then it's suddenly three a.m. We know that feeling, and the one afterwards of knowing that not only does a game rock, but that it was worth every dollar you spent on it.
We hope every game you play on Origin will meet this high bar, and we're happy to say that starting today, we can guarantee that we'll make things right if you decide the game you just bought didn’t live up to your expectations.
The new Origin Great Game Guarantee works like this: You may return EA full game downloads (PC or Mac) purchased on Origin for a full refund--within 24 hours after you first launch the game, within seven days from when you purchased it, or within the first seven days after the game's release date if you pre-ordered it (whichever of these conditions happens first).
If something doesn't work out—you aren’t riveted by the storyline, or sucked in by the action, or even just if the game doesn't play well with your video card—we’ve got your back.
Requesting a refund is quick and easy. Just visit your order history and click the “request a refund” link next to your recent purchase, answer a few quick questions, and we’ll take it from there.
For more details, you can check out the full Origin Great Game Guarantee policy details posted on Origin.com. The Origin Great Game Guarantee is effective as of today in 20 countries. Like the improved Origin Store, we are rolling out the program worldwide over the next few weeks, and everyone will be covered by the Origin Great Game Guarantee by the end of September.
https://www.origin.com/us/news/origin-great-game-guarantee?fb08192013
So only question that remains how much can you play within 24hrs

you can return within 7 days of purchase or within 24 hours of playing it.
it will get abused. time to buy humble bundle keys... keep them in storage and then refund them when this policy is out.

They will probably close the service to those who're abusing it.

It's only for purchases through the origin store.

Time demos, finally. I was saying years ago, that companies that don't release demos should be obliged by consumer law to include a time demo functionality in every full game. It's not like such a thing is hard to implement.
Great move by Origin. The competition should follow suit.
