DX10 had a very good reason to be exclusive to the new OS due to the entirely new driver model of Vista. So no, that wasn't a previous mistake of theirs they are repeating now.
For DX11.1, there doesn't seem to be a reason to be exclusive to Win 8, other than "because we can".

That, and "because fuck you".
It's not like there's much incentive for MS to support PC gaming when they have the Xbox - on the contrary, it's better for them if PC gamers would move to the Xbox.

so .. i installed win 8. cause i saw that startisback is awesome.
and wth, used my wife laptop win 7 license to actually purchase win 8.
now, just out of curiosity, i was trying to find an antivirus in metro ui, app store.
there is any way to search a thing in that store ?
i can only see browsable category's. no search.

don't know about search, but windows8 has built in antivirus (MSE), so don't really need to install any bloated 3rd party AV.

i think that's because MSE is now merged with windows defender. so you can access it by opening windows defender settings.

It's built into Windows Defender.

i carefully checked my process list.
there is no such thing like windows defender/essentials or something remotley like that running.
in previous windows defender was an on demand scanner, not 100% active one.
so i manually started windows defender which stated : defender have been turned off, check action center. (usually on a clean install that damn action center bugger me with all kind of things, now was just quiet).
i head to action center, turned that on, and essentials shows up.
i dont like it to much, but for now i will stick with it.
ususally i use free panda cloud for antivirus only protection, i dont need a full suite antivirus, antishiedls, antocoockies, anti <insert 100000 idiotic things to check>.
the last question i have is about the search in metro app store. is there and i'm blind ?

you are using windows right now aren't you? your hypocrisy is just mind blowing |
yeah i kinda expected this answer Windows 98/XP/7 are only thing form MS i can stand - probably because I got it legal for free(same as Win8) and mainly because of gaming. But for work Linux is better. Other shit from MS (IE,Media Player,antivirus,Win8,...) is no go, 3rd party apps were always better.
And now when windows is starting to be closed system and apple copycat, i am starting to hate even windows. |
Of course. Now you have the legal right to complain you see!

google says:
Quote: | To navigate the Windows 8 Store, click the Store tile on the Start screen and then press Windows logo key+ Q or touch swipe from the right edge to open charms, then use the Search charm to search for apps.
You can also use the Page Up and Page Down keys to scroll the Store catalog view. |
prudislav wrote: | But for work Linux is better. |
for YOUR work maybe. for my, and many other people's work linux is shit because nothing runs on it, so we have to use windows or osx, but it's ok because i like using windows and even osx to some degree.

windows is fine if it stays open , but that era of windows like open platforms seems to end with Win8 and its build in shits (IE/AV)

cheers intel nvidia.
after 2-3 h, the remaining grip is still with metro ui.
unfortunately from time to time it popus some his own program like pdf reader, video, images or others which i hate. not a single one manage to make me want to launch it again ever.
installed alternatives, setup some things in default programs, i hope i will never see an app from metro shit pop up again.
another funny thing.
got my windows media center code.
started the install.
i was setting up some other stuff, computer is now restarting. without any warnings, he closed everything.
he is updating stuff, restart, again is updating stuff ... and again restart .
i dont think i ever saw a double restart for an instalation since so looooong time ago.
i kinda like the interface (desktop classic) a bit better than aero counter part (i was using classic theme anyway in win 7).
so the difference between okish win 8 and hate win 8 was the showing of the start button and forever (hopefully) hiding of metro ui and all his crap. startisback still have flaws, but at least now i can work more than 15 min in win 8.

You don't have to use IE or the built in AV.
@frogster:
Start8 is better imo.

Like I give a fuck. we're all still stuck with DX9 as it is. Is that news supposed to upset me as a PC gamer? Maybe if I really, and I mean REALLY had no other stuff to care about I'd shit my pants because I won't have a .1 right next to my DX11.... Sigh

Another pathetic move to sell more Windoyoyo Hipster 8 copies, but unfortunately for them I could care less about these exclusive DX11.1 and their invisible tessellation v2.0 + improved rebuffered shaderpers ultra for the ultimate cinematic experience and Windows 7 users alienation.

It actually isn't. StartIsBack is actual Windows 7 code integrated without hacks into Windows 8 through registry and an Explorer DLL extension. Start8 is a cheap shit by Starderp.
