So uh, is there a way to still show through Steam that I am playing the game by using the steam_appid.txt method? This is preventing me from playing the mp.

They're not offline. I was in a match for a few minutes. There are also plenty of people with rank 10+.
The game tells me Steam has disconnected after I've played for a bit, which is caused by the steam_appid.txt method.

There's no regional server restriction or such blocking access is there?
EDIT: Steam shouldn't interfere with the steam_appid.txt file, it still uses Steam even with that file so it seems strange it would disconnect you.
(Might just be something with Steam currently.)
EDIT: Oh right maybe it can, certain Steam features can be a bit odd when launching the game directly from the exe.
(DLC usually, maybe it doesn't connect to the Steam user data properly?)
EDIT: Rules of behavior or such.

I had the same problem when playing Borderlands 2 before it was out in my region. Steam shows me as Online and not In-Game, so I wasn't able to join other people through Steam.

Most likely you used a wrong appid. It should show you online playing CoD.

Excuse my stupidity - but if I change my region with steam_appid method to NZ, I can possibly play the game? Just curious.

You'll need a VPN to decrypt it first.

They changed that couple of months ago. If you are playing with appid trick, your Steam status won't change to in-game and it won't record time spent in the game.

Alright, so an Australian or NZ VPN first to decrypt it, then change region with appid to play?

So there's no way to play it online until it's out in your region then? Without playing with the VPN, that is.
