Hmm, can someone help out please ?

I cannot play any game at all, but Guild Wars 2.
All games get in window mode on the top left of screen then Black there.
Task manager is a God damn joke, it hides behind the Black Screen of the game and I cannot do anything at all...
Ive installed DX9 but still no game runs, just freezes Sad...

Any clues ?
Thanks...

Install DirectX June 2010
VC++ 2005, 2008, 2010 (SP1 versions.) and 2012 if needed.
OpenAL 2.1.0.0

Whatever driver updates you need, bios, network, chipset, audio (very important.) GPU (also very important.) and so on.

.Net 3.5 Windows 8 version if required.

Flash, Java, Shockwave, Adobe Air latest version if needed.

Disable UAC if you prefer or right click on the game exe and select "run as administrator" or right click on the exe go to properties and on compatibility select run with administrative privileges in that check box there.

Other OS tweaks and such could also be handy of course.

Is hibernation on?

http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/windows8/hibernation-windows-8-143523

(Also you should probably double check the energy saver profile you are using - advanced view - to see so that it doesn't actually have a turn off HDD after X minutes value assigned.)

you should do a fresh install and start clean. i saw countless noobs who do upgrade on their already messy windows installations and then blame win8 when something doesn't work. PEBKAC

Worked just fine for me after I uninstalled AVIRA. Win8 is rock solid ever since. I'm starting to grow fond of it actually.

With some tweaks, hacks and patching you can make it look like Windows 7. Wink

I see! Thanks! I'm planning to use a USB flashdrive with one of those mini-KMS servers on it - where should I download Win 8 from? MS?

Isn't that the upgrade for $15? You get a non transferable license and can only use Win 8 on one machine.

I have an upgrade code if you want it, just let me know.

I always prefer clean install. Otherwise, expect some weird behavior crap after upgrading.

But would it work if I don't have a genuine Win 7? I mean my Win 7 is validated, but it's a pirated version Smile

Unless things have changed within the last week then it should still work. People have been upgrading while having their Win 7 activated using Daz's loader.

Sent it in PM Smile

Edit: From the email I got with it

Quote:
Next Steps
Running Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant helps you know if your PC is ready for Windows 8, provides you with a compatibility report, and then walks you through the steps to purchase, download, and install Windows 8 Pro, right from the Upgrade Assistant.
Important Notes:
• You’ll need to run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant on the PC you want to upgrade.
• Once you get to the purchase screen, it will show the full price. However, on the order confirmation page you’ll have a chance to enter your promo code – then the price will change to your Windows Upgrade Offer promotional price* after clicking apply.

I have a hidden folder called ESD in the root of my system drive (C:\). Seems that this is where it's at.

Edit: You get an option to create an iso or a USB installation from within the installer, if that is what you are going for.

Hmm, i think windows 8 just closed an application on me, or it was a bug. I played chains of satinav and windows kept nagging about low memory, and 30 mins later it just closed with no warning or message.

Nope, won't fucking install, tried three times now, two times from within Windows 7, and once from USB flash drive, still just gives me a shitty, zero-information "Upgrade unsuccessful" bullshit message.

You might have to do a clean install.

Here are a few links but I'm not sure if they will help.

Thinking of doing that, but I still don't like the idea of using a third-party app permanently to fix something like that, even though it might be the only solution :/

I'll atleast try Metro first Smile
