At that point, even after paying the various parties involved we'll have covered our costs.
He's saying they need 2.5-4 million $(I'm too lazy to count what 50k sales on each platform would garner) just to cover their costs. That's more than it would've taken to get Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, DFA AND Project Eternity kickstarted. Obviously without all stretch goals.
I'm sure it'll, sadly, sell way more than that.
Atari and Wizard of the Coast both take a significant cut of the profits.
Apple takes a cut when the game is sold on their platform.
I believe the developers only keep 1/3 or less of the profits, but I don't know the exact number.
He also says that it would need that many sales to put some money away and prepare to work on Baldur's gate 3, it's not limited to getting back 1:1 the money they spent on making the game.
In the past he mentioned that he had 3 targets when it came to sales : first target is the bare minimum they need to sell, second target is what he would consider enough of a success to let them keep going without having to immediately worry about money, the third target was what he would consider a huge success, the unexpected.
I would expect 200 000 sales to be the second target, but I could be wrong about that.
looks amazing. i gotta admit though if i was making something like this i wouldnt release any info until it was complete, despite the great temptation. at least that way if you get shutdown its too late, its already escaped to the internetz.
I still cry over that chrono trigger remake that got shutdown.
That screen isn't from E.E though, i recognize that graphical error (the bright dots in the dialogue box) from the GemRB emulation of BG. The E.E interface is also slightly different, it has a blue'ish color..
I think these guys are full of themselves. They need to understand that the stuff they are adding or reworking doesn´t add to much and that all the credit for the awesomeness that was/is BG1 is due to Bioware´s work.
Glorified modders is what they are. That being said... can´t wait to play it.
If unfamiliar with BG, buy it from GoG and download some modding from fans. These guys want to cash in.
Nothing wrong with people wanting to make some money - Bioware wanted your money also. Why not wait for the reviews here and see if the work they have done are worth the price they are charging? Or better yet just download the isodemo.

Duhhh... that would be because Bioware MADE the game, you know? This is just a cheap mobile cash-in with a PC port tacked on.
And what made you think I didnt know that? If you read the rest I said - why not wait and see if the work they put in are worth the price? Why auto assume that what they did is not worth the price or for that matter the download?
I didn't assume anything, my comments are based on available facts, you're the one that made the ridiculous comment "nothing wrong with people wanting to make some money - Bioware wanted your money also" -- what the fuck does Bioware wanting money for a product THEY CREATED have to do with a modded re-release of the game from someone else?

Well these guys are enhancing a product - so they shouldnt get paid? They are the "evil" corporation because of that. Pff grow up - you either pay for the product if you really like it or you download it. And we all know everyone in this thread will do one of those two things.
The ridiculous part is you comparing the original developer's desire to earn money from their product... with a mod team wanting to profit from that as well. All they've done so far is laugh at the PC audience and all they've shown so far is just shit - to call it "Enhanced Edition" is a joke.
Take all the hard work and creativity to went into Baldur's Gate. Increase resolution (without actually improving the assets because yaddayadda bullshit ), throw in a handful of quest mods and then slap an "Enhanced Edition!111" tag on it.

And that was why I said, why not wait and see if the work they have done are worth the price they are charging? Cant make it much clearer than that. So thats that.
Surely it's not a great overhaul of the game, but is it actually a worse version or one that is so unfairly priced (it's $20 vs $10 for the GOG version AFAIK)?
Let me rephrase that. If both versions were priced at $10 which one would you get?
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Considering it's double the price and offers a single extra character and an "arena" ? Yes, it's a worse version.

The original + mods of my own choosing, at least then I wouldn't be paying for someone to profit off the hard work of others. That and I dislike their treatment of the PC - to which we STILL haven't received a single piece of solid information other than "prepurchase!! pay us now!! you can download eventually!" nonsense. All I'm seeing from this is a community bug-fix patch with an "arena!" tacked on with new characters that don't properly interact with the rest of the game because the original wasn't made to include them.
I don't see how this is worth paying for and most certainly not when someone says "Well Bioware wanted your money! So it's only fair for someone else to as well!" To sum up; it's a $20 3rd-party mod that is specifically targeted towards iPad and no, I don't consider that worth buying. Mostly I'm just pissed off at the blatant false advertising, there's nothing "HD remake!" about it, if they'd at least put the effort into upgrading the visuals and doing it properly, I'd be more inclined to support the project .

But currently if you would be buying the original on GOG, it's Hasbro that would be "profiting off the hard work of others." No difference.

Thing is, I think Bioware mainly delivered the engine back then and others actually wrote the story. In BG the story is about you, not about defending the whole world against the plague (or the blight) but about YOU. You get dreams that reveal pieces of the puzzle. The other game that used a similar approach back then was Planescape: Torment.

Not a good start if you were trying to show your knowledge on the game.
The "arena + 1 extra character" is for the mobile version, which is priced at the exact same amount as the GOG version. Not "double the price". 9,99$
Also, I like how the complains about the PC version not being taken seriously are still coming even tho :
1) It's getting more features than the others.
2) It's the only one with an actual release date.
Right now, it looks like most of the complaints come from lacking knowledge on the game, not from a lack of efforts going into the game.
If you prefer not to bother looking for information, don't worry. I'm sure someone will eventually post the blurry screenshots from the early engine tests and everyone can have a fun time posting derp icons and making fun of it.
Whatever you say, Kanint. It's a $20 community bugfix with some "additions" that, IN MY OPINION, aren't worth the price of admission. Whether you agree with that or not is your prerogative, just don't sit there and act smug and mighty just because you don't like that people aren't fapping themselves raw over a cash-in on the iPad with the PC being an afterthought.
"more features" yeah. okay. Oh and my deepest apologies for only saying "one" character, yes.. there's three. And one "arena" based addon. Joy(!) Yes, it's double the price since this is the PC version we're talking about --- it's a port of the iPad version yet costs double the price. Woohoo. If the developers had actually given a flying fuck about the PC in the first place, people wouldn't need to "post blurry images from a pre beta omg beta stop judging beta omg" -- but hey.. this isn't the focal platform so who cares, right?
Look, fine, we get it. You're in love. Good for you, I'm HAPPY for you (no sarcasm either) - just accept that there are still some people who aren't bowled over by the magnificent accomplishment of bug fixing a 14 year old game, adding high resolution display and a trio of extra characters.

These guys are obvious opportunists. It would be ok if they charged 5$ for it - as it's slightly more convenient than downloading one of the excellent BG mods.
But at this price and their marketing bullshit of adding a lot of "content" - my recommendation is to save your money.
