The dialogue/monologue, that was definitely Max Payne, all the way!

This absolutely Smile Oh well, to each his own, it's not like it really matters who liked or didn't like the game Smile

4treyu, they had a good idea, but everything was for too long. I'm not bitching about the cutscenes because I never wanted to skip them, but about the fact that everything is too long. I enjoy a good story, but a good story presents good intrigue and great development, none of which MP3 provides.

Sabin, I never said that being able to skip cutscenes makes a game good. I just meant that they needed a better approach for the story to keep the viewer interested. For me it looked like and endless rant (ha) about how his life sucks, and just when you think that something develops, he goes back to being sad. (example: when the blonde girl gets shot in the head)

Yeah, we all have different tastes, but I expected something else, maybe that's why I'm thinking this is only alright, maybe I'm subjective. Oh well..

I want to play this game for the second time. I obviously have seen all the cutscenes and know the whole story so is there any way to get rid of the cutscenes?

Then I guess this game has very little replay value

I only said that for me, I don't think that's the case for everyone, if what they want is to lose another hour or 2 of your life seeing videos you've already watched, fine by me. Razz

It's not just the dialogue cutscenes. It's that there are cutscenes for the most random things. Max climbing a ladder, slowly opening a door and looking around, peaking out a window, etc. Things that have nothing to do with story or character development.

The game is using them for loading apparently but that brings up the question of why the game was limited in that way. Countless games can stream the level/enemies as you go along; why is this game so inefficient at streaming that it needs a cutscene to cover it up every other room.

Remember the level where Max is in an office and you have to lead the computer guy around? There's literally a cutscene between each room. The game can't load more than one room at a time?

That's the seamless cinematic experience for ya, take it or leave it Cool Face

Were there too many cutscenes? yes, especially in the first 5 chapters.
Was the noir atmosphere gone? yes, sadly. But the new setting coupled with the gritty story made up for everything.
Did the gameplay deliver? fuck yes. The shooting was one of the most satisfying that I've ever seen, thanks to the outstanding animations.
Did it feel like a Max Payne game? Despite everything, yes. Because of the great writing, mature dialogues, violence and deep characters. These are things that you can't find in any other 3rd person shooter around (except maybe for Alan Wake, but well, it's still Remedy after all ).

By the way, I didn't actually disagree with you about cutscene skipping. They are very much an annoyance when you're replaying the game and, like Interinteractive, have to sit through several hours of cutscenes that you've already seen several times. I've finished FFVII at least nine times since it came out, now I use a mod for the PC version that lets me skip FMVs at the touch of a button --- I don't always use it, but it's nice to have the option for when I just want to quickly play through again.

Bought this during the Steam sale. Tried launching it last night - crashed instantly "has stopped working" etc. Restarted Steam and got the game to start, now it's stuck on the title screen with "Initializing" at the bottom.

Fantastic. Any ideas?
