yep

That is not true, the metro may be annoying to some but in the end the O/S is solid which is not true for the previous "shitty" O/S revisions.

Vista was a pretty solid OS in the end too... it only had a few issues that were "annoying to some" Razz

vista became decent enough true, but for a while it was a piece of shit. Even sp2 is not the best.

In my opinion it was more of a case of hardware and 3rd party software finally catching up with the changes Vista brought. Aside from some compatibility issues at launch (which were more significant on a business level), I really don't remember anything being terribly wrong with it.

I mean do you still have problems that after change it some of texts will remain in your native (or english) language ?? Or this time they fixed it ??

does you and your stepdad have identical hardware configurations? if not, comparing OS speed like that is pointless.

i agree, win8 doesn't fit in "Windows rule of shitty > good > shitty". when compared to win7 it's faster, has better ram management, lesser hdd footprint, better resources management, better security. so how exactly is that shitty?

They're not forcing you, you can stick with windows 7.
But the structure behind windows 8 is far from shitty.
People either like the paint they put on top of that structure, or they don't..but that's personal preferences, like liking a movie.

Metro is not forced, and people need to stop the start menu drama, and move the fuck on.
There are solutions for that.

So this time its not the software that's shifty --> is the design decision. Easier to fix.
Wonder how the Metro thing survives SP1.

Metro is the key feature of Windows 8. All the ads, news and other PR shit was about Metro UI. It will stay. Although in Pro version after government and SB protests they might add an option to switch to standard desktop on start.

well I'm gonna do my usual n wait coupla months for the mug early adopters to do the hard yards of sorting out the usual MS glitches, fuck-ups n attempts to make us do shit that we don't wanna do.
The last 6 months or so of selling PC with win 7 loaded & cheap/free win 8 update thrown in indicates that MS did learn from the Vista mess.
Whether or not that software was the best thing since sliced bread or not, MS allowed it to be sold on PC's which barely met the minimum specs. The result was a shocking experience for the ignorati from day 1.
I've still got a POS HP laptop lyin around here that one of the kids bought for herself with her after school supermarket slave earnings. She bought it because it had 'the new great Vista' on it. Complete with 500MB ram and a celeron CPU that didn't have enuff power to pull a greasy stick outta a dogs ass.
It came preloaded with every piece of bloatware available in '07 including the world's largest puta virus Symantec Internet Security Suite.
Even outta the box it took 3 or 4 minutes to boot and a full geologic era to steer the browser to any website showing more than text n two gifs.
Cut from tearful kid stressed about starting the major high school year where she's gonna be assessed on her apitude for Uni by state assessors, her armed with that box of shit, to a PO'd Dad shelling out big bucks for a fuckin expensive Sony Vaio. (which only just lasted the year out before the NV graphics chip slid across the mainboard in a pool of its own solder makin that 'investment in your future, darling' another worthless brick).

MS' greed has brought that mob undone on countless occasions - trouble is 9 times outta 10 it is us, the consumers of their dross who pay most of the cost, so I ain't buyin into the dream until a few million 'keen young people' aka suckers have smoothed out the snares n pitalls with their squishy corpses.

well, lets say instead of vista, they should have launched win 7 in all his glory and awesomeness.
trouble you just described would have been the same.
hardware wise, we were not really ready for vista at that time. jump from xp to vista was to high.
but vista was crap, so we had some more years with win xp (win 2000 in my case), and at the lauch of win 7 almost everyone had enough horse power to run it without hardware issues.

Noone is bashing the win8 kernel, we're criticizing mainly the UI.

Yeah, I appreciate the improvements. I don't appreciate the UI tho. Sad
I tried StartIsBack but since it's still beta it crashes some games, just hope it'll get much better. Very Happy

Had a better / more stable experience with a tweaked Vista than Win7. I have a few really irritating bugs on Win7.. Sometimes the search function doesnt work (i use it all the time so for me it's important that it works). Can't cut/paste stuff most of the time, it will hang explorer and it will have to restart (closing down all my open folders etc). In the begining it was only when cut/pasting from the desktop, but now other folders are affected by this bug as well, it really sucks.

I wonder if Win8 is any good with a Wacom board (Wacom5, has kind of the same functions as an ipad for zooming etc). Might test on my laptop Smile

Better start using XYplorer as an explorer alternative. It's very good for power users and the search is amazing. I use it all the time to search through html/php content (searching ion files' contents)

But win7 has no bugs like that by itself, some app you're using probably screwes up with the context menu or thumbnail generation.

I've tested a few of those third party programs for searching but they dont come with an option to show .dds thumbnails for example, so for me they're completely useless.

Well, XYplorer has a Floating Preview feature which support most image formats, but not dds. You're hard to please. Laughing

Quote:
If you need a fast and friendly image browser, sound browser, or video browser, it's here: Instant, one-click preview of image (incl. PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, TGA, ICO and many more depending your installed codecs, using high-quality resampling for scaling), audio (incl. WAV, MP3, OGG, APE, etc.), and video (MPG, AVI, MOV, QT, VOB, TS, WMV, etc. ... not to forget FLV/YouTube) files, with display of detailed media information.

Tried it, it works for .dds too. Nice, will probably buy it, will test it some more Smile Thanks.

Nice ! It's the first proggy I've seen that has an integrated search in its Options menu Laughing

You also got to be a little careful if you're on a x64 OS, 32bit apps like XYplorer can't see some system folders.
