The thing is that only Metro games will be affected, and they are so basic that I doubt any of them had adult themes to begin with. When it comes to desktop apps, using the store is a completely unnecessary step, so whether a game is or isn't there is irrelevant. If casual and social gamers can type the name of a game in the store, I imagine they'll have no problems googling it and buying it elsewhere, which makes Microsoft's idiotic restrictions a non-issue.

Epic showed their Unreal Engine 3 running on Windows RT. So I wouldn't call them basic. And on Windows RT, there is only Metro.

Unreal Engine 3 on an ARM device? What kind of GPU sits in the average Win RT device? I can only guess that it's a very slaughtered smartphone version of Unreal Engine 3 that is being used.

It's Tegra 3, ultra-low power GeForce with 8 pixel shaders and 4 vertex.

Gamasutra article: "Windows 8 arrives amid serious concerns from PC game devs"
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/180193/Windows_8_arrives_amid_serious_concerns_from_PC_game_devs.php#.UI0dicUxrKc
"(...) here's the primary concern with Windows 8: This new OS sports a new "Metro" UI, which is now just referred to simply as the "Windows 8 UI." If a game developer -- or any developer -- wants their product to be compatible with all the fancy new UI features that Windows 8 offers, that software must be subject to Microsoft's policies, certified by Microsoft, and sold through the official Windows Store. is not that way.
only if you want to make your game win 8 metro ui shit (which brings nothing from my pov) you need to do that. it is a sane requirement, is like their appstore.
most of the games will still run in win 8 desktop mode, like now in win 7.
anyway, i will probably never install that shit os.

The main concern is, I think, is that it's not guaranteed to stay that way for long. Windows RT will continue to evolve making the "old way" more obsolete with each release to a point where not switching to RT will no longer be a sensible choice. There might not be a desktop mode in the near future at all... at least not for your typical consumer, so the developers will be forced to use the new system.

I wonder,is windows 8 gonna be a slow piece of shit with all that built-in programs and services?Windows 7 consumes 100 mb of ram just for a service. If it's going to slow operating system i don't want to see all that crap in my computer.

RAM usage isn't that high, it caches about ~50% but that's released when you do something like starting a program, Vista and W7 did it too but I don't think they cached quite as much.
Then again I barely have anything but the basics in use, no metro (Other than the side menu settings and that start menu screen.) or apps or anything, haven't really tweaked the OS much either but I'm slowly learning.
Performance wise for gaming it is a bit slower than Windows 7 according to what tests I've seen but I don't know if those were done with Windows 8 RTM or the latest hotfixes installed, they make some difference.
(Performance and compatibility is excellent for me but I upgraded my hardware around eight months ago and went pretty high-end then so it's probably not a good example.)
I use it mostly as I usually always upgrade OS's when available, security and speed enhancements mostly, not really much for these new features but some will likely enjoy Metro and the Windows Store I guess.
Windows 7 will work fine for years even if Microsoft might not focus that much on it so there's no real reason to upgrade yet either.
(I don't see many corporations switching over either, at least not for a while as they already have the server version of Windows 7 or another OS more suited for such tasks, or just upgraded to Windows 7 itself in many cases.)

windows8 uses less ram and less hdd footprint than win7. most of hate towards win8 is blown out of proportion and inaccurate.

all hate towards Win8 in my case goes to the fact that Metro is on top of the desktop, making it work pretty much as an "app" launched within Metro...like a fucking virtual machine in Unity mode. I don't want any of the metro shit in my desktop, and I don't want my desktop in my Metro. Easy as that.

Windows 8 is just a desperate attempt to create something tablets-friendly for the facebook generation and introduce an Apple-like mentality to lure a consistent slice of casual gamers.
True gamers and desktop users in general can easily and happily pretend that it never existed, like I will do.

From what I've seen of W8 it's something I don't really need as a happy desktop user, which is great cos I don't wanna start fuckin' about with a new OS again in the near future. I'd say that's a plus point.

Windows 8 has many significant under the hood improvements over Windows 7 - i would had gladly embraced it if not for the metro fiasco.

I don't really get the Metro complaints. All the whining made me think Metro was forced on you in every way but in reality, you can just click it once during startup to go to Desktop mode and that's it. I only used the start menu for searching for a program or shutting down my system anyway. Methinks people are wildly exaggerating like they did with Vista. If you consider all the positives, Metro doesn't seem so bad anymore.

what positives (metro ui related, not under the hood ones) ?
from my pov i just lost a perfectly working interface, to gain nothing. (because i will not boot into that shit metro ui).

All my hate goes towards Metro UI and for Microsoft locking us into it with a desktop OS where 99.9% don't have or are interested in touch screen monitors. They don't give u a choice (which is apparent since they made sure existing solutions to bring back start menu and a better looking desktop no longer worked). Sure, you can switch to the desktop screen that looks like a prototype to Windows 95, ugly and square, most likely designed that way to make more people use Metro instead.
I have zero interest in Metro, apps and their app-store, all things that are hardcoded into the system.
Windows Blue will most likely be an updated version with an even more integrated Metro UI and perhaps no desktop mode at all.
If Windows 8 fails (saleswise and appstore) Windows 9 "may" be the next OS for us. Until then I'll stick with 7. There's nothing in Windows 8 that provides something I need that isn't already in Windows 7.

Faster boot/all around performance for the most part, a much nicer task manager/performance monitor is what i've noticed so far.
Whats the word on those start menu hacks? Did MS get rid of them or something?

they deleted all the code related to start button/win 7 type desktop which existed in early beta, because people manage to access it and enable "old" desktop.
and those things like faster boot, task manager/performance monitor are in no way related with shit metro ui.
even if they will get old start button back, i may be reluctant to install it, because win 8 basically require you to have a windows live id. (i have 3 that i use, but i don't like being force to use it).
