|
 |
Hey guys, does anyone else have any memory leaking issues with Chrome on NFOhump? It only started happening over the last two or three days but after being open on NFOhump for a period of time, the memory usage of just THIS tab (and no other page or plugin or extension) starts steadily increasing at every page load. Whether it's a refresh or clicking a new link in the forum, the memory usage goes up by 3-4MB until eventually it's 1GB and over -- just for the NFOhump tab process.
It's driving me insane trying to figure out what it is. I've disabled/reenabled every single plugin and extension, nothing stops it, only closing the tab and reopening causes it to go back to normal ... but only for a short while, perhaps an hour at most, before it starts bleeding again. Oh and once the bleeding starts, browsing the forum becomes sluggish - everything from slow page loading to a millisecond freeze when the page has loaded before you can actually scroll.

I'm currently on 22.0.1229.94 m, it's always been updated directly from Google and I don't *think* it's Dev, just Beta and it updates automatically.
~edit~
Nope, apparently v22 is the latest "Stable" release.

Well, could be that 22 moved to stable with bugs, it's software after all haha. Not sure. I am used to higher memory consumption on my Chrome because I am on the dev channel and these are sometimes memory pigs.

One way to dance around Chrome bugs is switching from one channel to another. For example, move to the beta or dev channels and see if it is better.

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled all my extensions and it seems ABP *did* contribute to the leak. With just ABP running, nothing else, memory starts to leak after around 30 minutes of NFO usage - leaking at around 1MB per refresh and page load. I'm going to keep going through, reenabling my extensions and seeing which causes issues. It's not like I've even got that many;
ABP
BackspaceMeansBackspace (pet peeve, sometimes pressing backspace causes the browser to go back a page... grrrr.. this extension prevents that)
Cookie Manager (for cleaning out forum_t)
Humpinator (win!)
Image Properties Context Menu (seriously Google, how the fuck can you NOT have this by standard?)
IMGur uploader
And non-forum based addons;
Google Translate
Steamgifts Enhancement
Magic Actions
IBA Opt-out

No, just beta. 23.0.1271.52 beta-m
The order goes; Stable, Beta, Dev, Canary. Canary basically being a nightly build as far as I know.

No, I don't want to be on the bleeding edge .. Chrome is buggy as fuck at the best of times, I certainly don't need MOAR bugs from a nightly build, nor do I want to lose my profile or have TWO copies of the same profile. It's clunky. I'll just wait and see if Google fixes it, or if it's just my machine being a pile of crap then I'll just have to deal with it for now.
~edit~
It's not just NFO. Any tab left open for a sufficient amount of time will suddenly start bleeding memory. FB right now is using 238MB and it goes up by 10MB each refresh. For fuck's sake, Google.. what the fuck?

Time for a Ccleaner purge !
Or start removing plugins. (not addons, plugins)
