Actually, besides that it seems eliminating the main target the non-lethal way reduces the Chaos by massive amount. In the first real mission "High Overseer Campbell" I had 30 kills, 2 alarms and 13 bodies found (was just experimenting with stuff and messing around) and I ended up with low Chaos. And that was with coming into the mission with high Chaos from the intro area. So by that example you can kill pretty freely as long as you complete non-lethal objectives.

I feel the same way. For me its the thematic of the game. a betrayal story where you all fight for aristocratic power so you can worship a little preeteen spoiled brat in a primitive era of human progress can never compare to a sci-fi setting that focuses on the human condition, our possible future progress, etc.

I just got past the flooded district. one of the most beautiful levels i've played this year. the architecture was just pure win.

Dishonored deals with fundamental weaknesses of human character, specifically how people behave when they have absolute power in their grasp and assume that they aren't responsible to anyone.
What sets it apart from similar games is that your choices of how you want to use your superhuman powers affect the whole world around you. You are free to kill the innocent guards, who are fooled into following a false leader, but you don't just lose an Achievement, you actually push the whole (game-)world into madness.

How exactly do your actions "push the whole world into madness"? Are you talking about the two minutes of vid in the end?

I just wanted to mirror Drowning_witch's post. If mine is equally overdramatised to his, I call it a win Laughing

Btw, The Flooded District was my favourite level as well, closely followed by The Masquerade party Smile

While i do see some food for thought in dishonored, its still limited by its setting. Its an aristocratic world. People worship somoene essentially just because they are born into a family. Sure, some stuff about the plague, whale oil exploitation definitely sparked my interest and made me think. I can't deny that the game is well developed and detailed in its setting and lore.
but ultimately, a world like that to me can never intrigue me as much as a possible future where the human body is directly augmented by machines.

I don't see where you see overdramatisation. I just responded to ixi why I feel dx:hr is the better game. To me being a "good" assassin dedicating his life to saving a child who is supposed to control a whole empire and to whom grown adults bow and serve without question, is just not as enjoyable as being an augmented mercenery in a sci-fi world that could definitely be a part of human reality in the next 100 years.

Also, just finished the game. It ended quite abruptly and was dissapointing (the ending alone, not the game). The game peaked during the flooded district, and after that it just rushed towards the end.

While I enjoyed it a lot, especially since im a sucker for this hybrid genre, overall, I would place it a bit below Bioshock 2, and above Bioshock 1. Thief 1/2. dx 1 and 3, and SS 2 remain my top 5 games in this "genre".

Music was a letdown in the game. Other than the moody bgm at the bar, I don't really remember anything else and that is the saddest part. Sad

Did anyone else have the issue in the last level that the enemies weren't moving anymore?
Enemies still notice you and will move to attack, but they are no longer patrolling. The issue appears after saving/loading a few times, restarting the complete level is the only way to solve it Sad

Apart from that: definitely a GOTY candidate, starting a 2nd playthrough!

That happens after they detect you and you then quickload immediately afterwards I find.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/76369/three-dishonored-dlc-packs-announced

Quote:

If you've been clamouring for more Dishonored, you're in luck, but you'll need to hold on a while longer. Publisher Bethesda today announced three DLC packs for Arkane's sneak 'em up, two "story-driven campaigns" and one challenge mode with online leaderboards. The latter, Dunwall City Trials, will be up first, arriving in December at a reasonable $5.

Dunwall City Trials will pack 10 challenge maps, including, in Bethesda's words, "an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock." At a time when every single-player game seems to 'need' some sort of online engagement, it's the best-case scenario, trials with leaderboards is pleasingly reserved.

The second pack will introduce a new playable character named Daud, the head honcho of mystical assassins 'The Whalers.' He'll have his own weapons, powers and gadgets, and you'll get to roam around new areas of Dunwall. The yet-unnamed DLC is due in "spring 2013."

The third pack, due later in 2013, is a mystery for now.

So it's not just the pre-order DLC being made available which is nice. Smile

Nope. All my other games work fine and I didn't need to reinstall them, plus I seem to be getting more fps with the new drivers Smile

Very nice! Playing as Daud, who has similar powers to Corvo. And new areas So Much Win

The character is voiced by Michael Madsen btw, though I guess when you play as him he might be a silent character just like Corvo? We'll see.

i loved the fight with daud (if you chose to fight him fair)
and the assassins in general felt awesome to fight with
it's like what i imagine the characters feel like fighting me in the game
it's what i expected from the keeper assassins in thief3 who were just fucking pussies

I sneaked up to him and shot a sleep dart into his head, apparently it worked poorly though in the end I spared him (And stole his pouch, that was before I shot him though but since he detected me it didn't seem to count.) by running away at a really fast speed. (Since he is a pretty capable fighter and I tried to avoid killing the more major characters.)

(He did taunt me for running away or some such, would have liked to explore his little office somewhat more thoroughly but there's always time for that in this current playthrough even if it might require me to kill the guy this time.)
