The Xbox 1 had reduced quality textures, models, shaders, sounds, cut down and entirely missing levels, and so on at a resolution of 640x480 or so. (Although it was quite an achievement they ported it in the first place)

Well, yeah...I remember now that we didn't have flatscreen-tvs at that point of time. So blowing that version up in full HD would probably look like ass. But, as I remember it...it did look very nice...for its time I guess?

They had the *exact* same N64 quality even in the original game, but the darkness doesn't let you easily spot how bad they are.

Change r_overbright from "2.0" to "1.0" in the console and you are back to the same intensity of light Doom 3 had. Then the textures look identical to the originals and the game is as creepy as it always was.
It's the overbright setting they put that removes all darkness and allows the eye to easily spot how horrible the textures *always* were.
And the game should still be a bit brighter than the original since there seem to be more light sources (or different placement).
Change it to something like 1.2-1.4 to still make things brighten, without making it completely overbrighten.
BFG edition redeemed I have a few minor nitpicks with it, and I hope we can get texture mods working (Sikkmod is not a big deal, since it changes the vanilla look significantly if I really want to play with it, I might as well install the original Doom 3), but now it's an okay release.. for the inevitable $5 Steam sale 
On with replaying the games, then!

Damnit it seems like I deleted my doom 3 installation. I didn't have a scene copy of it, just some random rar file that you extract and play. Whats the best copy of original Doom 3?

I got the game to work with the HD mod that Bart1983 suggested. OMFG this game looks more delicious than most 2012 titles
I couldn't run this game at a decent fps on medium visual settings with my Geforce4 Ti4200 back in the day. I am now living the dream.
