that annoys me endlessly as well..

Thats how tactics games work, if you move your guy to a spot, that guy will move to that spot, no if's and's or but's about it. If you brought him into danger that way, thats on your shoulders, not the games'.

Don't dashrun if you can avoid it. Move to the edge of the blue zone first, preferably at a cover to scout if it's safe. If it's not you can then decide to take a shot, go into overwatch, use a skill or move back. Wouldnt be the first time I dashmoved my scout into a spot where he is flanked by 2 aliens.

If it is you can risk making the full dashmove (often needed during bombdefuse and panicmissions, where you don't have time for overwatch).

No that's not how it works.
Silent Storm, UFO Aftershock, all units stop moving when they spot an enemy.
I believe Hired Guns was the same. Not stopping is just idiotic. Oh hey look an enemy, i'm just going to cruise by, makes total sense. The difference is in those games there were proper action points, so you'd burn the action points up to that point, and could flee if you had enough left. In this one you're just screwed.

hm, when you have your team in overwatch (and range), then they will fire on newly spotted enemies who run into cover. At least they do for me.

That's not what I'm talking about. If you kick the door of a room open and there are enemies inside, they will get an opportunity to relocate. It means you can't surprise enemies and catch them in the open. They always get a chance to move to cover.

/shrug, I prefer it this way. If you dashmove into uncharted territory it's a risk you are taking. The game shouldnt adjust for your mistakes. And it's very easy to deal with: move one guy as much as you can while leaving an actionpoint, move the next guy the same way, then after you do all your first set of moves spend the actionpoints that are left over in the way you see fit (be it shooting, skilluse, overwatch or a dashmove or 2 for some of your guys.

The game shouldn't have to adjust, it should be common sense.

The fact is the action points and they're handled as a result in this game are derped shit.
Stopping actually couldn't be built into the game, because it would be like using half an action point (or whatever those things are).
See basically any other turn based game out there for how action points should be done.

I agree thats not a smart way - but with the current system with only 2 moves and a clear emphasis on cover, you cant have it that way as when you have 10 action points etc.
I am pretty sure you wouldnt like you man stop in the middle of an area without cover and if you then had an option to keep moving that would alter the difficulty.
My main problem with this system is the block of sight thingy - Sometimes I move to areas where I am dead sure I can shot the enemy from,
only to find out I cant and that makes me lose an soldier - that fucking sucks.
If only the engine would show from where you can actually shot the all ready visible alien I would be 100% happy with the way it works.

yeah would be nice to have some kinda preview of what tiles are visible on a given tile (i.e. when you move your mouse over a tile, it lights all tiles visible from there in green or red, or something). Due to how the game works, it sometimes really seems to make no sense at times.

To be honest, what would go a LONG way to rectifying some of the mistakes in combat would be the option to take BACK a move order before committing to it. As far as this genre goes, Front Mission and Valkyria Chronicles have gotten the combat perfected.

Oh and I just remembered something; what influences the sci ability of your troops? I've tried "testing for the gift" on my SEVEN colonels, a mix of all specialties from Sniper to Support with all of them having 89+ will, and none of them had "the gift" - so now what? The game difficulty is ramping up quickly now, so training a bunch of Squaddies and trying to take on harsher missions certainly doesn't appeal to me, heh.

Sadly no, I haven't purchased.. still on the FLT version and, based on posts from others, I've been exceptionally lucky -- not a single crash or glitch or error yet. Honestly, to hear from others the FLT version is broken beyond playability -- but I've had no trouble whatsoever.

1. Never dash, unless necessary. Move slowly, with overlapping fields of fire.

2. There are two different tactics:
-Move with a soldier, and if you cant fire, put him in overwatch. This way if you find an alien group with another soldier, he will probably get a reaction fire. (With a malus, but the aliens are not in cover when found, so its actually a bonus).
-Move with a soldier, then select next soldier and move with it, and so on. When you moved with all of them, select their second action. This way you wont find yourself in a situation when you found aliens with your last available soldier, and they moved into flanking position.

3. A squadsight sniper in an elevated position with overwatch and opportunist is your best friend.

4. Light cover on classic and above doesnt help nothing. Really, its a 20 percent to hit penalty to the aliens "Sure to hit you then crit you then teabag your corpse" % hit chance.

5. Cover in corners doesnt mean you cant be hit from the walls direction. Your soldier pokes it head out to say "Aaah" to the plasma bolt.

Dunno, there are a lot more, but I cant really focus now, Im finishing my shisha.

Honestly, that tip should be Tip #s 1 through 10 on its own grinhurt Squadsight + Overwatch + Opportunist + Battle Scanner + Doubletap? That WILL get a nerf in an upcoming patch, I can pretty much guarantee it. It's DELICIOUSLY powerful. My sniper has almost double the kills of my other team mates Very Happy

Honestly Moose? Give it a try mate. I don't ever use the S.H.I.V (whyyyyyyy would anyone WILLINGLY give up a multi-skilled devastating squad member for a mobile weapons platform?) so that one bug doesn't affect me -- and nothing else in the game has caused any problems. Besides, the patches are compatible with existing saves; so just play. If you DO get bugged out (you won't) then at least you can continue your game if/when the patches get cracked.

so, finished my first game in normal and LOL.

Finished the game, no kidding, with 1 guy (the "volunteer") with 1 hp left.

The last alien cast a psionic storm thingy on my team, killed them all off and then failed a mind fray on last guy and then died in my own storm hihi.

Talk about a climatic ending haha.

I never go for Battle scanner, disabling shot is just way too useful against sectopods to pass up. Not to mention that it saved the ass of more than a few guys, simply by knocking out the guns of aliens who would otherwise have a free shot at them.

Actually, considering "Squad Sight" I have to agree; battle scanner definitely loses its effectiveness further into the game. I mentioned it because I just got so used to having it, especially useful when leaving a sniper to take up rearguard.
