The tracks aren't exactly jaw dropping (low res textures here and there, and cheap design overall) but the models are excellent:

deffo an issue with the accel pedal for me using the logitech gt..its seems to be treating the accel as a button press rather than a gradual press and its difficult to reach high end speeds, using the arrow keys and the car flies..the pedals are fine in grid..i think it may be down to the game not detecting the wheel and having to set up custom controls but not sure ]..there are very limited options in game to calibrate the wheel / pedals

...and the worst rally award goes to Portugal.
Hundreds of km and not a single one straight. Only hairpins.
Anyway the game's good to me, even difficult at higher levels. Enjoying it.

Ya I too notice the game doesn't like the pedals so much.. Brake and Gas only register at 50% or more when the pedals are pressed, pretty shitty. Last game was like that too

This is actually not bad. Changing your car's setup actually has an effect, unlike in Ken Block's Derping. Default settings a bit too tight and setup options are limited (I want to change my individual gear ratios damn you, 2nd is way too long in some cars), but overall this is more CMR than Dirt ever was. Much better than that shit.
Oh, and for drowning_witch, here's where the hate for Ken Block comes from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_Games_XVIII#Rallying
Note that Loeb is the now 9-time (in a row) champion of the WRC. Well, 8 technically, but he's ahead by a ridiculous 71 points with 2 races (max 25 points) to go, that 9th is a certainty by now. Also note that this was his first time competing in the X-Games. Loeb's the one who deserves a game featuring him prominently, the man is a fucking machine, insanely good
And not just at rally, he's done some F1 tryouts that were actually quite good and I just found out that he finished second in the 2006 Le Mans as well (yay wikipedia).

Went into the WRC mode this time, started with Monte Carlo of course. I went for the Polo R WRC for shits 'n giggles and just jumped straight into the rally. Beforehand I set difficulty to the highest (Advanced I think it was called?) and then made sure the assists were off and set it to a manual box. The opponent slider I left set to the "advanced" setting.
So the first stage you get is this year's power stage at Monte Carlo. Didn't know the car for shit, so I drove on to the first checkpoint to get a feel for it and then restarted. That run I ended up 7th eventually. So at this point I've gotten used to the car a bit, know what I want to change and go into the car setup. Made a few changes (basically moving most of the grip to the front, FWD car after all and slightly tightened the differential) and went back in. Voilà, ended up second (behind lord Loeb ).
So, what is this game?
- Is it a sim? No.
- Is it Dirt-arcade? Fuck no.
- Is it enjoyable? For what it is, yes.
- Is it gorgeous to look at? Not really; cars are fine, everything else sucks balls
- Does it sound great? Not fantastic, but then again it's rally, no roaring V8's here.
Basically, the game has a much too simplified driving and physics model to be anywhere near a sim. What it does have however, is an enjoyable driving model in which the tuning options that *are* there, actually do work and more importantly, affect handling similar to how they would in real life. In Dirt you can fuck with your brake bias and suspension all you want, loosen up the differential and try whatever you want: you will not get that back to kick out unless you use your handbrake. In this one, even loosening up just the differential will already give it the oversteer it should have. Stiffen up the suspension and it'll get its weight across quicker in corners and you get airborne a lot easier. It all works, just a bit more extreme in reality and the options for them are simplified. That said, the only thing I really do miss are the individual gear ratios.
Above all else though: bravo Milestone, you've just leaped forward. From a game that was even worse than Dirt, you've now got a game that's actually pretty much like the CMR games were. Not overly realistic, but a decent experience. I doubt it'll ever get to RBR quality, but at least this is *some* rally. I'll definitely play this some more and perhaps even buy it, because there are *that* few rally games (nope, Dirt does not count as a rally game).
The lack of realism also shows in the times btw; Loeb beat me on the MC power stage with a 3:04 time in the game, in reality he did it in 3:27

When you sent me that link with Loeb winning Ken Block's X-Games I laughed so hard
Also I completely agree on everything, the game is much better than expected, especially if compared to its mediocre predecessors.
I wouldn't want a rally game dedicated to Loeb though, it didn't end well for Colin McRae and Richard Burns

Are you kidding? I find the tracks the most awesome in a game since the days of Colin McRae series, it's my opinion. Rally Catalunya stages are really great.
Salu2 |
i agree tracks look pretty good overall. there are some weird looking trees here and there, but most textures are pretty good.
i guess people who think this looks bad got used to all kinds of crap used in recent cockmasters games: tint, massive blur, screen filters and what not. |
Don't get me wrong I appreciate the fact that they aren't using any nextgen piss-filters , it's just that sometimes tracks feel lifeless/rough and definitely not at the same (great) level of the cars. Still, they're much better than the ones seen in, let's say GT5
I like how tracks are designed and their layout though, which is what counts the most.

Absolutely...it's a huge improvement over WRC1&2, and if you already liked them, you'll love this

Also change the title too into something cool like "WRC3 p3rf3ct dr1ft styl3" and you'll get thousands of views from the "male, 13-17 years" category

I see IGN has derped up their website. everything is super large now so that the derps can sit on their sofas and browse with the derp pad or itard devices
the top comment in the user comments section owned the reviewer hard
the retard reviewer calls a rally game unoriginal... wtf do you want, explosions and car hijacking? what a total derp
