Great. My Classic Ironman game is stuck at the alien base. Every time I end turn the game soft locks on the alien's turn.

I guess I'm waiting for the yarr patch.

I thought about another question during my sleep for the tech gurus. Is it possible to turn OFF the action cam. I do not want to see "Something AWESOME happen" I want to keep the camera the way it is.

I shot an alien through a hill Razz The camera changed to the over the shoulder view and you could see the guy shooting straight at the big ass hill in front of him... killing the alien standing on the other side of the hill.

Also, inside an alien ship, I shot an alien through the meter thick steel walls (which can be exploded with explosives).

Some line of sight issues maybe (seeing things you're not supposed to see -> calculating the hit chance based on the faulty los)

edit:
... too much coffee or the lack of it. what the hell did I try to write in the last paragraph.

Yup, I've had a lot of attacks (both given and received) through full cover, through walls, through solid objects.. it can be annoying.

I think you missing the point of full cover. It doesn't grand immunity to hits, just lowers chance to hit by a constant value(I think it's 20, More Info button shows all the math).

The only way to get immunity from hits is to have full cover in adjoining tiles, but you can't shoot that way.

That doesn't explain being hit through solid objects such as UFO hulls or building walls Razz

Its not line of sight, if they can see you, they can hit you and you can hit them - it has been explained before.
Thats just the rules of the game it seems. Half cover gives you 20 defence which is hardly much and full is 40 in defence.
Many armors only give hit points and no defense bonus, but the early skeleton armor do give +10 to defense.

When I do something wrong in a mission, its not that one of my men was killed, its when I dont kill/stun every unit before its the alien turn.
Plan ahead, use the snipers location device, some turns just wait till you get to hear the aliens location etc.

I don't get what you are so upset about with that pic sin, the game works that way, if you dont like the basic rule of the game you probably should not play this version of xcom Very Happy

I think its work good, the cover system. Took a day or so to get used to. Like all game have certain rules you need to learn.

What i do not like about the game is the problem with LoS not showing enemy's. It have happent a few times that my sniper is in a very good spot but cant take a shot. Thats just bad programing.

Also i have one or two shots fired through a wall or UFO wall, been playing many days so its not a big issue.

Most issues i have with the game is the lack of complexity. But with the "secondwave" option and mods i think this game can be great in time.

You have to think in grids instead of looking at the ingame graphics when considering LOS.

After modding this shit my playthrough on Classic is much more managable so far but not that easy. I'm at the beginning of the third month, lost 1 country already (but I decided to abandon Asia so it's no big deal). I also like tactical battles much better with no cheap AI advantages.

The isodemo truly convinced me, bought the game yesterday so I can benefit from updates and some multiplayer in the future. Once you get, and accept, the "rules" about LOS, range and cover (which basically any RPG player should be able to grasp) the game is absolutely great.

I'm really digging all classes more and more, especially the supportclass with +3 movement or the heavies with holotargetting (wheras at first I was mostly a sniperfan). I was forced to play with x2 Assault for a while and that was pretty awesome as well (using lightning reflexes on 1 to draw the overwatch, then fuck them up with x2 Run and Gun).

It helped it was only 25 euros on intkeys.com (sold out now), had to wait about 17 hours for them to send the scanned code which was a bit aggrevating (not to mention made me doubt if they were legit), but still well within the promised 24 hours. Just entered the code and it was region free as an added surprise the game came with the preorder DLC (which I like to use to make your soldiers more easily identifiable).

GOTY for me so far, even if Borderlands 2 is a close second. Now need to convince myself to abandon "Yeti" "Shadow" "Romeo" "Twitch" "Wardog" and "Saturn".

There's mods out already? Gimmeh!

Going to start tonight - how's the map variety? Are there really so few maps that it becomes annoying, or is that just a regular case of internet hyperbole at work?

Been playing almost nonstop since tuesday (on about my 6th Classic Ironman), and think I haven't seen any map more than twice, and out of the 3 missions I played today 2 were on new maps (mostly because I progressed further into the campaign than I have previously. The other one was on a map I have seen in an earlier playthrough, but this time it was a bombdefuse map.

I assume if you start over a lot your mappool (of smaller maps) is smaller as well. I believe it when they say there are 80 maps, but I think there are only X amount of bombmaps, X amount of VIPmaps, X amount of "small/medium/large maps", X amount if UFO maps (in small/medium/large variety") and then it also depends if you touch down at night or during the day, so it's sort of logical that within certain constraints/modes you will see similar maps. Can't say it bothers me... I sometimes like knowing the map to give me a bit of an edge (and still lose 2 soldiers and have the other 4 wounded).

Maps are selected randomly though. REALLY randomly. I had the exact same diner map come up twice right after each other in two abductions.

Just finished a run through on Normal. I figured I'd follow the dev's advice and do that before jumping into Classic. Aside from some early issues with mounting panic before I got enough sats up, it went pretty straightforward, although there was definitely a difficulty spike in the last 3rd.

One thing I'm curious about is the Edison achievement for doing all research projects in a single game. I'm not an achievement whore as a general rule, but I was surprised I didn't get it as I didn't have anything left to research at the end. Unless there is something extra in Classic/Impossible, I'm not sure what it is I missed. I captured one of every species (that is possible) and did all the autopsies, researched all the materials and weapons, etc. I'm wondering if I missed out on an extra bit of kit.

Edit - Ah, reading a thread over at the official forum it seems I missed intercepting a Battleship. Never saw one (which explains why I didn't get the shoot down all UFO types in a single game achievement) even waiting an extra month or so before launching the final mission. Apparently it provides some extra tech. Will have to look out for it next time.

I wouldn't say I found it annoying exactly, but yes you do see a lot of maps two or three times, most especially for the UFO crashes. There were a couple of maps I only saw the once though. It's probably more disappointing then anything else, especially given how tiny some of the maps are.

You can try using the Cheat Engine table and changing the flag manually, though it's based on ID#, not name, and it doesn't have any logic to it either.

Stumbled across this on a different forum, XP users rejoice!

Quote:
I got the FLT Release to work under Windows XP

As you know, according to http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2964408 the steam version got fixed by a proxy dll.

That didnt work for the FLT release, cause it still complained about InitOnceExecuteOnce export -
i actually bothered to modify the DLL to export that function too - but i still had the same error - then it hit me - not the game was requiring the vista+ kernel function -
it was the steam_api.dll supplied by the FLT crack!

So duh, lets try out another FLT crack which was recently made - yeah "Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers" sounds good -
goto gamecopyworld, download the crack - only replace steam_api.dll which works under XP and bam -
there you go! (You still have to follow the instruction in the orig. steam thread above, first)
