sooo, if I love rally in dirt 3 without assists, on highest diff, will I enjoy this game? someone tap in my psyche and answer me. thx!
It's arcade and has a consolish feeling overall but it's also slightly more realistic than Dirt 3 so yes, give it a try
nice. will definitely download it. I just love the rally part in dirt games. its just so addictive replaying the same track 300 times until i drive perfectly and beat the cpu's fastest time.
I spent 115 hours on dirt 3
also good to hear this is using gamespy. that means free online for yarr racers
Dirt 3 has no rally. You can "drive" on gravel and ice, but that is not rally. Not in terms of tracks (they're far too wide) nor in handling (there's far too much grip).
By the way, I did some more stages yesterday night and I've got to admit that apart from the cheap sound effects, unimpressive cockpit view and inconsistent braking the feeling with the car is pretty good.
Different surfaces require different driving styles, and roads are half the size of the ones in Dirt 3. (there's a great amount of locations , too). It's very easy to do mistakes even if the driving model isn't simulative, you always have to listen to the co-driver
game isn't terrible at all, i actually kinda like it. gfx are far from AAA but they are clean and textures are crisp, no unnecessary effects or filters. regarding previous comment about hairpins... there are fast stages, for example Finland or even Sweden.
Might give it a whirl for a bit then at some point ixi, I'm dying for some new rally, RBR can only entertain for so much
It sounds like it's not too far off the old CMR games, before they added Derp Block and removed all physics, that sound about right?
Yep pretty much. The handling is quite different if compared to the old CMR games though, since the car feels way heavier. Also I agree with Kamikaze, ffb effects are quite bad, at least with the derpad.
@Silent_Lurker: I've just started the Championship, no team management so far (maybe it's included in the other game mode?)

I am disappoint witch
Im just not very knowledgable about cars in real life, so naturally im not very hardcore when it comes to racing games. rally to me is a solo race against time. I loved colin mcrae games back in the day. dunno if they are considered any good by sim poeple. as for dirt 3, took me ages to get all first places in the rally like races, so I enjoyed it. I do want to try richard burns rally in the near future since I hear thats the ultimate rally game. hopefully i am not too derpified for it
Yeah the game kinda blows with the controller. The wheel is much better implemented this year compared to others,, I thought the driving sucked on the controller..

I'm not really either, yet I don't find games like that right and I prefer hybrid racers like Shift or the old Porsche Unleashed (since I don't have a wheel for proper simulators; they don't feel right without it), not boat simulators or other self-playing crap like DeRP3, which I don't even play lately. I still love games like Driver SF for example (lovely game!).

CMR was arcade, but enjoyable. The first Dirt was doable, but 2 and 3 are aweful. Particularly 3 is ridiculous, because your car is glued to the road, you can play it like a road-racing game. Doesn't matter if it's ice, gravel, asphalt - you always have full grip.
Honestly, just grab an old CMR game and play it. Then load up Dirt 3 and notice how ridiculously easy the game is. Also, real rally tracks are typically not much wider than the car itself in reality; in Dirt 3 you can easily fit 3-4 cars next to each other on most, which kind of removes the point of rallying. Apart from the surfaces you lack grip on, in rallying you can't take an ideal line, there's just no room for it. That's why they slide around corners, that's the fastest they can go with that little grip. Again, in Dirt 3 you have so much room and grip that you can just approach it as if you were playing "regular" racing games
Oh, and Ken Block is fucking aweful at actual rally driving in reality; all he can do is show off his Gymkhana nonsense
RBR is pretty darn hardcore, but it also has some good tutorials. It teaches you some common rally maneuvers, it'll still take you some practice though
The only "problem" with RBR is that it basically requires a steering wheel to fully enjoy it. Sure it is possible to configure the pad but it never feels right, imo. Too bad that my old Sidewinder broke several months ago, otherwise I'd still play the shit out of it.
I recently installed RBR with that RSRBR 2012 Addons? Can't for the life of me figure out how the the game running in 1920 16:9
I've changed config files from tutorials and tips on net but ingame always looks stretched and nasty. Looks like fun though, wanna give it a whirl. I hear there is some tough online times to beat with that game.
Shame they didnt add proper ghost live races like modern titles (i appreciate its an old game)

Yes unfortunately it always looks stretched, though there are some users at Nogrip who have tried this tool which apparently fixes the issue:
thx for the feedback Werelds. will definitely give RBR a try very soon. its been over half a year since I played a racing game, so the itch will come soon.
Ken block video looks to be what my RBR experience will be like
Anybody having issues with not hearing engine sounds at all?
Yes! My G35 headset seems to break the game's engine sounds. But ONLY the engine sounds and ONLY when the race starts, other then that, it's fine. (Which makes it unplayable really.. What's a racing game without car sounds)
Also, when I switch over to my stereo sound system it all works fine. Funny how a surround headset breaks the surround sound of a game.
Took me a while to notice but does this game only have daytime tracks?
Its horrible, no rain/snow, no night races, not even dawn/dusk.
Its always fuckin' midday!
This ruins an otherwise solid racer
