It seems that the cracked steam_api.dll is enough to run the patched version - works for me anyway.
So just download the updated Steam version, and copy over the cracked steam_api.dll file and you're good to go.

Have they patched the fucking indoor camera? Fighting inside a UFO/Base is pretty much impossible - can't see fuck all without having the camera go up to roof level over and over, and having to rotate it 10 fucking times to get any sort of awareness.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

It goes via Steam so you'll need the updated files from elsewhere.

Which reminds me, I'm actually having a fairly decent time this go around. Is this because I haven't advanced the main mission? The aliens don't appear to be getting any harder or numerous. Anyone know if it stays static or does time passage effect the difficulty?

Isn't it like with the classic games where you research more advanced items and then more different alien types and stuff appears, eventually leading to you traveling to their world and killing whatever is there and leading the invasion.
(I'm going by the classic X-Com DOS game here so I don't know how this game does it but I heard the setup was similar.)
EDIT: Difficulty level and time should also account come to think of it, should see larger invasion ships and more attacks from what little I remember.

Normal: Aliens never tech up past you
Classic: aliens tech up at their own pass
I got outteched last classic ironman easily. Had a few missions of sectoids, than 1 with a thin man, next one floaters got introduced and 2 missions after that chryssalids. I got outpaced due to my tech lacking: I was lacking money by not using the grey market at all (not for damaged stuff either and no additional satellites due to it.

just sucks, that aliens (and yourself, i guess) can shoot through 2 or 3 corners (without blowing anything up) and even through walls and from lower to 2 floors above lol.
Half the kills the aliens make, make simply no sense at all :/

never seen them shooting through 2 walls in order to hit you (4 actually, since they shoot through corners of buildings etc).

The collision and cover detection is just borked. I had one more situation where I was standing in the middle of a wall but this time I could shot through it. And I still don't understand how the % chance to hit work. One time I have 5% from one cover and 25% from other that is in longer distance from enemy.
So far the safest tactic is staying in high cover with overwatch and moving from high cover to high cover trying to flank the enemy. Staying in half cover usually means wounded or dead soldier. This way I lost only one soldier in classic mode after doing 7 missions.

You guys are operating under the assumption that the hit system is like in the original, or like in JA, where you let a bullet go and if it hits, it hits, if not, then it's a miss. Here, if they see it, they can shoot it. And "seeing" is not calculated by actual line of sight from the unit's head. It's all tile based. In that example, I would guess the tiles are positioned in a way that in that system, there is a line of fire. Just that the flashy Michael Bay-esque animation leans out of cover in a way that it will make the shot look retarded.
I say, don't expect a complete rework of the aim system any time soon. They made a decision to use a derpified to-hit system, instead of the traditional actual ballistics, where after pulling the trigger, it's all up to the projectile to reach the target. Here, it really is all just percentages and "aweshum" animations.

this is a simple example of what we're talking about. Shooting through 2 walls (corner of a building, container etc) and then through cover.
Sometimes it cuts through 2 corners, making it 4 walls + cover.
oh and this examples only include the ones, where the walls stays perfectly intact and nothing gets destroyed.
I have no problems with weapons/kills that physicly destroy walls in their path. |
That's it, that is exactly how I usually get shot and I'm scratching my head going "What.the.fuck?!?!".
