Propably. But we don't know what exactly is wrong with it. Could be the circuit board (which should be fixable by ordering a replacement board). But since we don't know, I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle.
Yeah, but when it's doing that, it was already broken anyway.
Tho i have to say, i did this with a few drives before (to open it like that), those worked just fine (currently still having one in use, after 6 years now).
So i think that it depends per drive.

Anyway, lucky for me i did a backup (tho had to clean stuff out, because it was a 2TB backup on just a 1TB HDD...), but still, loosing 1/3th of my HDD space is shitty.
Prices now are too high for my liking (€74,- for another F3 1TB), so ill wait till they are around €50,- again

whats worked for me on ones i had doing that..since I couldnt get data off it anyway, and killing it wouldnt matter.
Was an old IT friend of mine said to 'flash power it'. As in leave the data cable off, but 'bump' the power cable on and off for around 1 second each, 5-6 times.
It made one I had work long enough to get data off it, and a few extra days before it started again.
Another I had it didnt help at all.
