In an interview with Games Industry International on how he left the game business (and what he's been up to now that he's rejoined it) Lanning alleged that not only did EA try to buy them out, but that they spend the money they make on triple A games buying private jets and expensive cars.
"You won't be seeing our profit being spent on Ferraris and shit like that. Our profits are going back into games" said Lanning.
Regarding what he told to EA when they supposedly offered to buy his company out, Lanning claims he told them "Fuck you very much." He went on to say "That's not a sustainable model,
that's a hostile acquisition," Lanning said of EA's plan to acquire the team. "That's why we had to strive to get independent. Rather than get into bed with someone we knew was a horrible bed partner we said 'let's stay virgins for longer'."
Lanning also added, on why they chose to remain independent that "Publishers are flying jets, do you think they care about the customers just one fucking percent? Not at all."
And what did EA have to say? "We wish Lorne luck on the game and recommend Lithium for the paranoia and Tourette Syndrome," said Corporate spokesman for EA, Jeff brown.
“Nobody here remembers a jet, a Ferrari or an offer to buy his company," he told Games Industry.
Okay...it is pretty clear something went down between the publisher and Lanning, but EA's not telling.
Lanning indicated that there's more to tell but that he can't. "If fans heard me vent and were just like "you're a pussy, you're a complainer". You know what, you don't know the half of it.
I don't mean to be condescending to fans it's just true. The real dirty shit we can't talk about because there's laws and all-powerful leaders." |

They're milking the gamers for as much as possible, money always goes upward and execs get rich.. It's like a pyramid scheme. Take into account that EA management couldn't give even a small fuck about it's customers, it's all about the mighty dollar, no artistic integrity, no original ideas invested in, nothing going back to the gamers.
Before EA became this Borg-collective publishers actually used surplus revenues to put on new ideas and inventive developers while having a few top selling franchises. With EA that is all changed, the only thing that matters is the bottom line and that's why there are so few original and interesting games being made today.
The other publishers left had to copy the formula to survive, ie. buy a successful developer and have them churn out yearly games (Activisions CoD-franchise anybody?).

this, it just show how hes trying to make a name for himself and get some attention. i`d prefer that his work would speak for himself but when you didnt do anything worth noticing recently thats the only way you can get some publicty. strangers wrath was shit imo. and now when oddworld remake is in the making he`s just trying to make some kind of buzz around himself in a pathetic manner. i`d be supprised if EA execs couldnt afford shit he mentiloned, trying to sound like it was something 'evil' lol.

Our company has told quite a few newspapers just that for requests they had, then complaints that they cant get (as in impossible but they 'demand' them). Including Dow Jones/Wall street journal, USA Today, Times Inc.
And they remained customers, and finally understood the level of "what the fuck do you not understand about impossible" that was being implied.
And you live in Israel, where our HQ is based..I spent 3 weeks there, I don't think there was one conference where what I considered "yelling at each other", the israeli's i knew just considered it 'important discussions"..hehe
Maybe its my upbringing, and cultural differences. But most people I met there when having a difference of opinion during a business meeting, went over what I'd consider 'business manners'.
Not saying it was wrong..just different approach. What passes for 'business arrogance' in the US is seen as just having a 'passion for the business' with them.
