Took the same replay from project cars, once recorded it with 30fps and once with 60fps.

And motion blur is active on both Laughing

Yeah the difference is very noticable. Thats no wonder. Try playing any pc game at 30fps:P
But this is the point for me:

1)Started 30fps video first and it was smooth
2)then 60fps video and it was too fast. Kinda like truemotion 100hz on some tv's
3)started 30fps again and it was all of sudden slow
4)started 60fps again - Well that is how it is suppose to look!

see - brain adjusted. That's why most console games are 30fps vsynced, not to jump to higher frames, so 30 woule seem sloow.

without direct comparison, 30fps seems allright,

this is my fav example - MAGIC Very Happy
http://boallen.com/fps-compare.html

also. There is not enough motion blur on 30fps video Razz Some engines scale motion blur to be more dense when fps goes down. Like Crysis

I can't sustain playing any game @ 30 fps. Just sucks. It works on the very rare occasion where a game is trying to be cinematic, eg, SoTC.

The way our eyes/brain see is very complex and there are reasons why it's impossible to say that our eyes see 20hz or whatever. Each rod in the back of the eye independently send a signal to the brain which put the pieces together from both eyes to form a picture. The "data" coming from each rod at the back of the eye is not synched at a certain frequency, it's all about neurochemical signalling. A higher frame rate simply allow the eyes to catch more "data" for the brain to process than a lower frame rate, hence the experience of more fluid motion the higher the FPS.

Motion blur is the #1 trick to make 30fps look better. Btw, have you looked at still images of movies that were made before 2000? When there's motion EVERYTHING in a still is blurry. That's why it looks "cinematic" and smooth when you watch it @ 23.976/25fps.

When I recently discovered that after a new catalyst installation the 1280x720 at 60Hz resolution disappeared (I have the option to use 1280x720@24/25/50/59Hz though Rage ) I searched for measures to add 60Hz back and what I found made me want to create this topic even more...

In every fucking thread regarding this issue is at least one idiot that says that the eye can't even see more than 24 frames per second and that more is useless. W T F, get your fucking brains checked you imbeciles. And because of these fucks the threads always get de railed and I yet have to find a solution for my problem and re add 1280x720@60Hz.

(This is not aimed at you KC, I understand that you say that when there is nothing to compare it to, 30FPS are sufficient for you to enjoy the graphics)

Try this Pumpy!

With nVCPL you can manually add custom resolutions without problem... seems AMD still lives in the dark ages, forcing registry editing to add customs Sad

Or an automated tool?

Thx sabin, will do when I am at home Smile

Edit: I already tried the first one, didn't work, but the second one looks promising Very Happy

They're both from 2011 so there's probably a better solution these days, but still... not being able to add custom resolutions/refresh rate from inside the control panel is just Sad

I used to be one of these. Very Happy There is an urban myth floating around about movies using 24FPS, thus no need for more.

People just got it backwards. 24 frames is the bottom limit, not the top for fluid motion. Below that, choppiness comes in, but that does not mean the eye cannot perceive more.

Just show them that bouncing squares page, and if they still cannot admit that they are wrong, there is nothing you can do.

Takes me almost two days to adjust my brain to 30fps games, I fucking hate it.
The last one with a cap I played was L.A. Noire and it was only bearable because its a slow game. After some time 30fps seem completely fluid but until then I had already beaten a fourth of the game.
I can only at people who cant see the difference at all.

Yeah now it has, back then when the 60fps uncapper first came out everything was unoptimized and unless you had a very high end system you got bad stutters and a framerate around 45 that felt like 15. So I had to play with 30fps.
