The most miserable HDDs that I have seen, reside in my PC.

A Green Crap from Western Digital that I have bought just because I needed more space, I had a low budget.

I'm experiencing extremely low speeds while browsing the web, especially when I view the Gifs thread in the useless section, massive lag... I don't if this issue is caused by the HDD but I'm pretty confident that my i5 2500k could keep up with that.

Since I cannot afford an SSD at this time, I need some HDD recommendations that are cheaper than an SSD.

Could that be the problem with performance while browsing the internet ?

Which CPU do you have?

This looks horrible tbh.

Can you also do a short stroke 1GB test only? Don't want to let it run for too long on my machines for comparison:)

Sry I am too blind to read Smile

Will compare it. Actually I ran that tool today and some days before on my work notebook.

The notebook has an i5 460M and last week a basic 320GB internal HD. The read speads were around 80mb/s and the minimum was never so low. CPU usage 8% or so. The access time was I think 7ms.

With PGP full hd encryption the same HD was down to some 40mb/s read time and 25% CPU usage.

I also did the same 1GB short stroke runs.

Now the same notebook has a 120GB OCz SSD (something basic). Read speed is now at ~140mb/s and access time .2ms or so.

With PGP and the 25% CPU usage everything was horrible... I'll do the same test on my main PC (750GB Samsung) now and report back.

i don't think your hdd is the cause for the problem described. more than a ram/cpu related issue.
(got a macbook air, that has a ssd, and got the same problem, and its not the hdd).

For that you should try to disable browser hardware acceleration, or Flash HW acceleration as well if the website uses that.

For the HDD make sure you have the proper drivers (Intel Matrix for example.) and settings (AHCI or what it's at.) and also be sure it's defragmented properly such as oh I don't know, I'm using MyDefrag myself which is very good but it will be rather slow and can miss certain files and such depending on free space plus development has kinda stopped so there's some bugs as well. Very Happy
(Also make sure the page file isn't super fragmented either.)

Not sure what else to suggest, this is pretty basic advise but it's something to try at least. Smile

Well I did some tests with my main PC (shitty AMD Quad) and now your results don't look so bad. Which browser are you using and are you also using Garus' extension on it?

10GB

1GB

Again 1GB and with a drop to 25MB/s

I'm using Chrome without Garus's extension.

So basically it isn't the HDD that's causing the poor browsing experience ?

The RAM memory is fine, the processor is fine, the video card is fine.

The only crap is the HDD.
