I don't really see how the lack of shadow-hiding is a bad thing, it really isn't all that realistic in the first place - and as long as line of sight hiding works, with no psychic guards, then I'm absolutely fine with them wanting to keep light in the game to show off the art Very Happy

"But we realised that when you're standing in front of an NPC like this [hand in front of face] it's not realistic - we must admit that. In the real world it's not like this."

But blinking or transforming into a fish or a rat and then suddenly being back to human form (with clothes and inventory etc). Yeah, that's a lot more realistic than being completely invisible in the dark.. Cool story brah.

It would be a valid comparison if the character was making himself not visible in the dark by using "magic". Hiding in shadows is something we can easily understand since it follows our own existing logic. Transforming has no basis in reality, so they can just call it magic and make it work whichever way they like Razz

On a more serious note: DXHR was purely line of sight based, when it came to stealth, and it worked great, so this doesn't concern me at all, especially since it's not actually a pure stealth game.

While I doubt that "realism" is the main reason, I can certainly see where they are coming from. As good as SC: Chaos Theory was, it would often look absolutely ridiculous when you would become completely invisible to a guard passing you in a hallway by staying closer to the slightly darker edges of the said hallway (reminds me of Smile). Then you also have the environments lighted in strange ways, where at least 50% of the room is covered in complete and total darkness with light sources producing very narrow and precise cones of light Smile

I don't see any problems with this. I'm sure if they hadn't mentioned they ditched those "mechanics" nobody would be complaining here. I appreciate their sincerity, and I don't care if the game is not Thief-like. I'm looking forward to playing the Thief trilogy though, but that will have to wait till some time in 2013.

I would have noticed instantly that it didn't work. I was originally interested in this game BECAUSE of what they were working torwards.

I was turned off with the mutating stuff but I was going to look passed it. I probably won't even try the game out now. Whatever though, I have too big a backlog anyways.

It's still a very valid comparison. It's not a simulator they're doing, it's an aciton game with many over-the-top situations, it's not like invisibility in the dark would be completely out of place (even if magic isnt involved).

I have to agree with Midermast on that one. Just take supernatural powers as a given, the guy is still there visible in front of the enemy AI's eyes.

You won't even try the game because they don't have "you can't see me, I'm hiding in the shadows" feature? Hehe... come on man Laughing

Nope, I was into it because I wanted a game that was based on fun stealth like in Theif. Now it's just Crysis with retarded powers.

But to be fair, I wasn't all that interested in the game from the start. It sounded interesting and figured I'd try it out or something but meh. They aren't doing anything special to catch my attention

..and it would obviously be completely out of the question to have the AI check if the player is close enough to be seen? again, this was a very lame excuse, there's no way around it.

I'm assuming the player is very close distance to the enemy AI, as that's something that I've experienced in many games (good and bad, praised and loathed) and almost everytime I found myself asking, wtf? how come he doesn't see me?

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I read the article, MGS is also another similar (good) example. Besides they've already shown how the AI works in their previous videos and there's nothing to be concerned about, despite the lack of shadows it still looks and feels like a stealth game. Unless it's all an elaborate ruse Sad, but I don't think so.

Yup MP3 is great the first time, good the second time but the third time when you've learned each and every beat
of the story and you can see the "still loading" flashing forever and ever , never letting you skip...

1 and 2 are still amazing.
