It seems like an odd choice. After all the fapping the press has been doing over the game for the last couple of months, going on about how awesome it is and how it really is a true successor to the original, this demo is probably going to do more harm than good. They should have included a mission from later in the game so you could actually get a feel for how it plays, rather than spending 80% of your time going through scripted button presses. I'm willing to go on faith concerning the gameplay based on some of the other stuff I have seen, but the demo certainly confirmed my fears about the interface at least. That's some clunky shit right there.
And one thing they definetly need to fix.
those flags and soldiers need option for country/geogreafical filter.
I dont wanna play with US , UK or israeli soldiers.
I want team of slavic - east eurpoean soldiers.
Again , its fixable by mode pretty easy.
Shut the fuck up. This game is true succesor of XCOM! Stop bitching.
XCOM hasn't even been released yet:
Quote:
XCOM was officially revealed at E3 2010. The game was originally announced to arrive in 2011, then scheduled to launch on March 6, 2012, before being delayed again. For a while, the game was supposed to come out before March 31, 2013. It is currently expected to be released between April 2013 and March 2014.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is the first XCOM game ever released.
However, there's a series called X-Com that have become legendary (Ufo: Enemy Unknown and Terror from the deep). But as you may notice they're not XCOM games, they're X-Com games.
5GB for a tutorial and a mission that played itself
That was one of the most useless demos ever made. The game is clearly made for consoles and gamepads, but has potential. The ISOdemo will clarify everything as usual.

israeli soldiers all the way, the devs are out to troll you. secretly funded by tel aviv of course

Maybe you'll get to play as a Nationalist task force in the upcoming DLC
On a serious note, taking into consideration that this was a hand-holding tutorial, I still think this will be a good game. It's put enough doubt into me to make me thankful for not preordering, though.
The controls are a bit clunky, but nothing i cant live with.
One question, how do you get soldiers up on top of roofs containers etc? I had problems with that after i had entered a building on ground level, then it seemed impossible to go on to the roof of that building, even tho i tried to zoom-out all i could...
Edit: Ok i tried one more time, it seems one must press "F", to zoom out with the mouse doesn't cut it lol, console crap coding 4 the win.
I don't understand why developers make the most easy things so hard in ports. Is it it to save money? I mean how long can it take to like add rotation of the map to say.. the scroll??! 10 min or 10 hour, whatever, just fucking do it.
I sometimes find it hard to know what soldiers turn it is, would have been nice with some sort of portrait instead of just a random name and a ugly icon. (you can name your soldiers i think but still...)
Also a simple key for centering on the unit that's about to move would make things much easier, but nono.
Also the inventory system seems kinda boring. I remember in UFO Afterlight where you really had to plan for each mission. It was a mini-game within the game, something like Tetris , It was really fun.

God knows. As someone that played the original X-COM on the PS1 with a mouse (hazy memory, but I remember it as a good port.) it crushes my soul to see such lazy development almost 20 years later. But! must resist too much negativity, I plan to enjoy it for what it is.
The demo was quite enjoyable IMO, though I'm sure if I wasn't such a filthy noob who hasn't played the original, I would've hated it. The core mechanics seem fun, especially if you change the difficulty and take into account the fact that some idiot decided to include only the most linear and scripted part in the demo. The controls and the UI didn't bother me all that much, aside from the need to double click the skills to avoid the "OK" screen.
I hated how it looks the game takes itself seriously. If it weren't it might have been able to make up for unimpressive looking game play and locales. That's what I picked up from the demo anyway. I will take a look at ISO demo as well, but not with as much expectation anymore.
I watched the tb video of it and my god at first glance it looks absolutely horrible, and consolified. I don't know if that is really the case, but the ui, the color, and the buttons all just looks like not a pc game. The two action combat system does not look impressive either. It didn't really feel or look like a x-com game at all. But I suspect the game itself will be decent, like a 7, but not really a good x-com game. Also do we really need cheesy one liners? Yes some half assed meaningless conclusion based of 20 minutes
Crystal ball tells me that the game will get 10/10 scores and will be praised by the press and sheep as true successor to original game mainly because it's done by famous and successfull developer (of civ fame). The 2 action system will be glorified as evolution to the cumbersome and confusing action points (you have to count more than to 10 and you have only that much fingers). And most of all your units will die A LOT and that's is the proof that it is the X-COM/UFO of the derp generation so we can finally bury the one from the 90's. And haters can go and fuck themselves.
There's an option to turn off the voices. I'm going to disable them in the full version simply because every soldier has an American accent regardless of nationality, which makes the game sound ridiculous.
