|
 |
I have this hypothesis, let's see what you think of it...
MAYBE ... just maybe, what separates Europe from the USA in terms of people, and how we think is this:
USA go for appearances, words and actions
Europeans go for consequences, cost, and strategy
---
To europeans, americans talk a lot - they're a people that likes to talk, and talk ... and when they talk, they talk about stuff they think is great: "That's great! That's good!" ... usually it involves something that the USA has done.
The citizens of the USA like appearances too... they choose their representatives based on appearances ... look at Arnold Schwarzenegger ... show me a politician who is less about politics, and more about appearance. Also, it seems like the americans like the words full of action, they want short oneliners they can remember.
USA is probably the only country that declares war on stuff... "War on this, war on that", etc. it's simple, any two-cent citizen can remember three words... "What are we doing right now? Ah right! War on someshit... great"
Now, listening to these punchliner-politicians lead to actions. Americans don't seem to like long hauled decisionmaking, short punchline, and then go off fighting.
Saddam has weapons of mass destruction
Simple... even the guy flipping burgers at McDonald's understand that one... "Holy shit! Let's go kill his ass".
---
When someone found out Saddam didn't have these WMD's, it's just to replace the words to motivate the people ... "Al-Quaeda connections", and wham-bam! There you go!
Now, Europeans are good at long overhauls... buerocracy has it's long tendrils throughout most nations of Europe. Europeans love to strategise, "What are the consequences of this? How can we do that? Why not? What is the cost? Is the benefit worth the cost? Are we thinking utilitaristic?... " etc. -
Maybe this is a part of what's so different about us?
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

he must be set in the 1960's before razors were widely used. Nearly every girl here shaves or at least maintains it now. Also I dont believe your hypothesis is correct or justified. Look at east european countires like yugoslavia and russia. Do you really think they have an all out bureaucratic approach? As for the 'appearences' thing... Ok maybe they did choose him becuase of who he is (a mega film star) but I dont think its because he has big muscles and a pretty smile ( ) Some of the american publics decisions arent good but at least they see it through to the end and things like vietnam and iraq they were too drawn in to pull out of. As for your pretty poor statement on 'war on terrorism, war on this war on that' Well war can be replaced by many words such as we (england) use 'fight against crime' I think you're looking way too deep into the specific wording and limiting your view.

In the United States:
64 % of adults age 20 years and over are overweight or obese.
30 % of adults age 20 years and over are obese.
15 % of adolescents age 12-19 years are overweight.
15 % of children age 6-11 years are overweight.

(The Associated Press / Ipsos Poll, June 2004)
More than 97 % of Americans are aware that the United States is the world's fattest nation. More than 64 % think it is embarrassing to them personally and for the country.
(Bally Total Fitness)

Are there any statistics of other countrys? Know america has most fattest but many countries aint far behind. And you cant really follow those numbers sine BMI is a terribly wrong way to show if your owerweight or not.

Today's America is the Western Europe of the near future (which sadly concerns much more aspects of society than obesity alone). Nearly half of the Dutch is already fat enough to be officially labeled overweight, so we're even a bit ahead of schedule! Not me though, my BMI is 24.2.
