Depends which games you like. Xbox has better media ability and games that are released on both consoles look better on the xbox.

Depends what size you buy for it... I think it can take upto 300GB

To use a HDD to load games of with your PS2 you would need to get a network adapter and as well hdloader on a cd/dvd or on your mem card. Install XBMC, youll love it.

If you don't know what to buy then you probably don't know what game to buy and you probably don't know to play game, so don't buy anything. Invest your money.
