Diablo 3 has absolutely nothing in common with Diablo except for the lore. From the 4 hours or so I've played of Torchlight 2, IT is the true successor to Diablo 2, and not that homogenized market simulator piece of shit that Blizzard shat out. It may not have the multi-million dollar cinematic budget, but THIS is what Diablo 3 should have been, no question.

Yeah, and you're obviously too fucking stupid to get my point. I guess it's just this Torchlight hype mentality in the works. I'm not saying the game is bad, all i'm saying is i clearly now understand why they extended the release date.

Isn't a large part of the team behind these games ex-Blizzard North?
(Thus why it's similar to Diablo since it's from the team behind Diablo and Diablo 2.)

They are both hack & slash and have a number of other similarities but they also have a number of differences though the core mechanics are pretty alike.

I can't say I feel the same. Perhaps the combat pacing is somewhat similar, but honestly, how many aRPGs differentiate themselves in combat? You click, use skills, shit dies.

What makes an aRPG, in my mind, is first and foremost loot variety and distribution, on par with making meaningful choices with regards to skill and stat building. Diablo 3 fails MASSIVELY in these regards, with no chance whatsoever at any redemption. It's just too fucking simplistic to have any long term appeal. To address this would require rebuilding the game from the ground up.

Torchlight, from what little I've seen, hasn't exhibited any of these problems. Oh, and it has real randomly generated layouts (not 10% random, 90% fixed as was the case with D3). And infinite, randomly assigned dungeons. Can't forget that.

Honestly, what Runic has done here ought to make everyone at Blizzard cow their heads in fucking shame. After having force-fed myself over 300 hours of D3 delusionally hoping that something would click and it would get better, I'm happy to say, with no reservations whatsoever, Blizzard can cease to exist tomorrow and I wouldn't give a rats ass - Runic knows what it's doing and Big B is no longer required.

I feel that way but only with the characters. When I was choosing who will I play, I couldn't decide, because character skills are almost identical with their D3 counterparts. Except for the Engineer, so I play him. It's the same as witch doctor in D3. Only one that isnt't the same old barb/wizz/ranger/paladin - kinda sick of these classes.
But dont get me wrong, the game is awesome, awesome, awesome!

Did you not play the original Torchlight kenny? Yes it feels like Diablo, not a surprise when it's made by most of the people who actually did the first two. Aside from how the gameplay feels, it has entirely different skill mechanics, character stats, pets, proper random generated maps rather than randomly generated based off 5 puzzle pieces that fit together, not to mention loot that's not worthless even early game. Also not a surprise why'd they extend the release date, no, even though D3 turned out to be a disappointment, had they released at the same time it would still have failed.

Instead, this now feels like the game D3 should've been in every way (apart from the visual style, obviously Razz).

@ oblivion: TL2 has no equivalent to a barb or paladin; the Berserker has more in common with a monk.

Anybody else having issue with activation? Sad

Trying for past 4+ hours and page either forever loads or throws 404 not found error.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

You activate from the game launcher, or did you mean the account setup after that?
(It's down for maintenance or at least it was when I tried so I'm in offline mode playing solo at the moment, account I had during the beta seems to be gone so I couldn't link it to that.)

I'm trying to register/activate the game via site.

https://secure.runicgames.com/account/register/torchlight-ii

But I'm getting this error for hours now.

Yeah, that is true, But the outlander is totally Demon Hunter and Embermage is Wizzard. Some of the skills are virtually identical..

Well gee, I wonder if that's because those are standard ARPG classes and certainly not new in D3? Razz

If someone wants flexibility in character classes creation should try PoE. Just saying.

Did I say that D3 had new and original classes? Well except for the WitchD. Sometimes, I just find it difficult to force myself to level up virtually the same char. for the 10th time..

Just out of curiosity how far did you get. I picked him and find it OK maybe quite easy (on Normal).

Normal is easy. Veteran is a little bit challenging from the beginning. I started my 2nd character on Veteran after playing on Normal and had the feeling that the newly taken class sucks lol wut

Veteran seems too easy so far, 4 hours in. Healing bot seems too strong, I put 5 points to that as soon as possible. I've only used 15 health potions so far (you can see this from achievements) and half have been to my pet.

Runic Games has sat back and capitalized, as jilted dungeon crawlers look toward Torchlight II and hail it as the answer to their prayers.

Sadly, however, these poor misguided fools are as misguided as they are poor. They are also foolish. They are poor, misguided, and foolish because only a poor misguided fool who is foolishly misguided would be poor enough to consider Torchlight II anywhere near Diablo III in terms of asskickingness. I swear by the blank check in my shirt pocket that I will defend Activision's beautifully made game against all criticism, because there is one simple truth that you need to understand.

Diablo III is blatantly better than Torchlight II.

Yes, sometimes the entire game goes down for maintenance and you can't play it offline, but let me present you with this little morsel of a concept -- you can't use a toilet when a janitor is fixing it, can you? No, didn't think so. Let the janitors fix your toilets, and let Blizzard fix your Diablo III. LOGIC!
