Terrible port is terrible and the developers should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. It runs fine, but you have to edit the config INI just to change the resolution and even when using a 360 controller, all the button inputs are for the keyboard. That's just downright pathetic. It also doesn't feel like THPS 1 or 2, it's too... lethargic. There's no smoothness and fluidity like there is in the originals.
Yes, in the PS1 THPS games the skater just floated through the level. Here, he seems to have weight. That's just what happens when you use a proper physics engine.
Even though the game looks "weightier", the results seem to be the same so far. I manage to pull of combos with ease and when I bail, it's for the same reasons as always. My initial verdict is that we have a proper reimagination of THPS on the Unreal 3 engine.
I think the "heavier" physics is what ruins the overall feel of the game. It doesn't matter if you can still pull off the same stunts or not, if everything still feels sluggish and lethargic. If this is what a "proper physics engine§!!!" does to classic games.. then they can keep it I'll stick to playing THPS1-3.

I recently played THPS1 via emulator and this remake definitely feels better to me.
He's also wrong about the "can't actually get to the controller menu while using a controller" -- yes, you can. Press the 360 pad's X button. Still doesn't excuse what a terrible, terrible port this is, nor the horrible "weighty" feel that completely destroys the dynamic, speed and fluidity of the classic series.
I've always wondered if there's a generic UDK settings editor. As this game seems to be based on a very standard UDK, it'd be nice to have one instead of manually going through the thousands of config options. And people complain about lack of configuration, I say there's too much Even the physics.
TotalBiscuit is so hilariously wrong about the visuals that it's simply not even worth pointing out, but this is for me7;

I'm sorry mate, but as far as fluidity, speed and overall handling goes; I know which one I prefer. It's a shame they couldn't keep the feel of the original game and just give it a visual overhaul, rather than screwing around with the physics and speed.
The THPS2 video seems to feature a maxed out skater (he's pulling 720°'s with ease). Videos like or are better for comparison. It's different, no doubt, but I'll play it some more before I decide whether it's bad.
I'm sorry, I just don't see what you see. Both of those videos just make the game look even more sluggish, like the gamer is constantly struggling with the engine and the way it plays. Don't think just because people are getting high scores in the HD version means my points are invalid. The "too real!" physics stuff in UE3/PhysX only ends up killing the feeling of the original game .. so therefore I'm not a fan and cannot be persuaded otherwise
THPSHD is to THPS what CS:GO is to CS1.6, if you ask me.
It feels weird to be on the "other side of the fence" -- I like how Source/GO feels compared to 1.6, but it's easy to see why so many CS purists hate it. Just like I dislike the "Source/GO" version of THPS, it just doesn't feel right to me, which is a shame as it's gorgeous. TB really is speaking out of his anus with the whole "the visuals are terrible, the Dreamcast version looked better" silliness
TB was talking out of his ass during the whole video.
The comparisons to THPS2 are made because the game implements the feature set of THPS2. The gameplay refinements of THPS3 aren't in THPSHD.
Why compare it to THPS3?
$5 for the THPS3 maps, skaters and gameplay changes - such as revert - hopefully music too, though for $5, from Activision, I'm surprised it contains more than a single map
