|
 |
Quote: | Muzyka apparently told EA about his decision back in April 2012, and allowed the company six months to set up a proper transition.
"I now desire to take on a brand new entrepreneurial challenge," said Muzyka. "I believe strongly in the power of free enterprise to enable sustainable change, so my next ‘chapter’ will likely focus on an entirely new industry, something exciting, different and frankly downright scary – investing in and mentoring new entrepreneurs, and more specifically, the field of social/impact investing." |

My thoughts exactly. Sell out to a company you know damned well is going to destroy your company piece by piece because the money was good then abandon ship when it's been hit by a nuke.

And then do a Kickstarter. Eventually.
I so hope that happens only so I can see it fail.

The fuck?
How do You know what is going on in there to do a judgement? So people can't change their profession because You familiarize them with bioware?
Bioware is no longer the same company. ITS DONE FOR. deal with it.
Ray muzyka or not. That's not going to change a thing

More likely they got fired and this is the cover-story. Probably no-compete clause in their contracts which keep them from working in the industry for at least a few years.

holy shit the things people accept. Quitting a firm and not being able to work for a few years? I hate the fact that people can be ordered like this, but on the other side i'm glad these fucking sellouts gets the punishment they deserve.

lol. As if you guys would've said no to a big bag of cash from EA. Don't act like these guys were developing games for fun in their attic pre-EA. It's a business, money rules.

Of course not. I would rather live on a dollar a day than take millions from EA...
Hey that rhymes!

It's been 5 years, their non-compete is likely ending next month.

My opinion on this:
1. EA wants BioWare -> not much to do about it, as when someone as big has it's eye on you, you are kinda screwed. Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka have really not much to do but to "embrace the dark side", hoping to survive somehow with their BioWare identity intact.
2. EA buys BioWare in October 2007 with lots of PR shit about how nothing will change with the "merging"
3. BioWare launches Mass Effect 1 in November 2007 -> maybe the last "pure" BioWare game
4. Dragon Age 1 comes out in Nov 2009 -> despite being in development since before BioWare was bought by EA, it shows some signs of mainstreaming in it's new RPG core rules and it's far from being a "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate (as declared)
5. Mass Effect 2 comes out on January 2010 -> it's clearly not a true RPG anymore, it's even much more mainstreamed and it's a product more oriented towards the masses, and not to cRPG/BioWare fans
6. Dragon Age 2 comes out in March 2011 -> it's a flop. Yes, don't argue, it is. Why? Because it's developer isn't named BioWare anymore, it's named EA. The game is clearly even much more mainstreamed, is targeted to even a MUCH more broader audience, and has gone way too far from what BioWare used to create (that is very good/memorable RPGs)
7. Star Wars TOR comes out in December 2011 -> another flop as MMO, will go free-to-play soon
8. Mass Effect 3 comes out in March 2012 -> personally, I am too disapointed and lack motivation to even pirate this
9. Light is shed upon Greg and Ray, as they see the future someplace else. They clearly lost BioWare and have not survived EA. Kickstarter seems like a good idea. But only after a time of relaxation with family and beer after all the stress that has been EA.

Yes yes of course, they were the poor naive devs who have been ruined by the big evil corporation. I hope these poor souls will be on KS soon so we can all support them again. Evil EA!

True, but in the industry, once they got your IP, they got you. "YOU" doesn't mean shit without an identity.
Yeah they could get off the EA bandwagon at any point, that's true. They sure took their sweet time. Also this doesn't mean they will really switch to (or found) another company. They might drown in beer, as far as I'm concerned, as there are plenty of indie devs that can take their places.
Just wanted to point out that, after a screw-up, there's never too late to start again or do the right thing, and, personally, IF it'll be the case, I'd allow them to redeem themselves without much hesitation.

Definitely not. Check the making of video for ME2 where one of these two is talking all about the tons of weapons and armors and equipment they put into Mass Effect 2 and I was like, did this guy even play the game?

I would have done the same. Waste half of life on trying to be smart, deep, a better man than others, translate that in game industry or not.. at the end of the day no one gives a shit about you or what you've accomplished.. first mistake you make and people start spitting you without even knowing the details.. can you really accuse anyone for selling out? passion for.. deep.. video .. games ? get drunk and fuck some in the butt.. share the fun with FireMaster while you're at it..

It is a shame and I do feel bad for them, because regardless of the hollow EA-controlled shell of a company they ended up, Bioware DID still make some of the greatest So yeah.. I have no sympathy for the clusterfuck of ME3 ("fans making petitions about your game" oh boo hoo, don't fuck them over with lame-ass endings that don't mean jack shit in relation to the hard work and dedication they went into the series) or The Old Republic (Come on, you really expected people to be HAPPY about being told "Nope, no KoTOR 3.. here, have this super expensive, yet hollow and broken, MMO instead"?) -- but I do have sympathy for the developers and company in general.
EA. The reverse Midas touch, every piece of gold they touch turns to shit.

They wanted to be with the big guys and make a ton of cash but as it turns out apparently were not ready to see people calling them out on their "nothing will change" shit?
Fuck them.
They (got) paid for the ticket?
Should had enjoyed the ride.
But this is probably just a lame try by the new biowarEA drone master to see if people stop giving them shit... though chance buddy.
