- Homescreens and app drawer
Should be up soon. Ignore the slow loading of images on Bild, I've barely got WiFi reception up here (~25-30m from the AP, 2 floors up and behind a wall :E), even the iPad with its WiFi-N struggles. Not important anyway, since it's smoothness you want to see and it doesn't slow down with more images once they're loading; it's the actual loading where devices usually struggle, as does the iPad. Once images are loaded it's fine, since they're in memory. On the Israeli site one of the Google ads craps out, probably also due to the bad reception up here, does the same on the iPad. Or perhaps it's a geo localised ad and has nothing to show for NL? Dunno :E
Anyway, as you can see, I don't bullshit. My Desire is perfectly smooth and there's no weird tricks involved here. This is just CM7 (with an ICS theme though obviously, only just installed it a couple of days ago ). No overclocking, no modified drivers or whatever, this is just CM7 (which in itself is just AOSP with the appropriate device drivers - 2.3.7 to be precise, so it doesn't even have "Butter"). Opera scrolls perfectly smooth even while loading, doesn't change once it's done loading. Home screens don't stutter, neither does the app drawer. One of the homescreens has my emails and SMS on it (and considering I've had this ROM installed for over 1.5 years now, that email database is pretty hefty by now, should really check at some point), the other has my agenda (which, as you can see, is pretty fucked up full ).
We can make this story as long or short as we want, but I have had my Desire next to iPhones on numerous occasions, there is virtually no difference. I'll run Sunspider in a bit if you want, or some other benchmark, but outside games (which I don't play on my phone), it very rarely slows down; no more or less than my iPad or the iPhones I've worked with anyway.
Yes, most manufacturers ship with really fucked up ROMs. Getting a different ROM on a phone is no more complex than Jailbreaking though; in fact, the hardest part is rooting and installing a recovery/bootloader, which is done similar to Jailbreaking. After that, to install a ROM all you do is fetch the ZIP, stuff it in the SD root and hit "install ZIP from SD" in recovery mode.
Edit: come to think of it, I should've just turned WiFi off, HSDPA+ would've been fine >_<
Also, operating a touch screen while viewing it on another touchscreen is awkward
I am not interested in synthetic benchmarks. As I said, even an iPhone 4 is enough to push most software.
The video of Ynet you put doesn't seem smooth to me? The feel is completely different between your video and the iPhone.
But since, you and ivan claim it shows smoothly, let's call it a difference of "smoothness implementation" and leave it at that.
Well, like I said, something isn't loading properly on that website, so the initial load sucks (bad website though really, means they got the shit external resource loading before their own content). Other than that though, you must agree that there's no real difference, right? Mine scrolls just as smoothly as yours after that.
And where's the overall choppyness I'm supposed to have? Now maybe do you understand why I'm sick of these bullshit statements?
Might be worth waiting for the quad/adreno320 Sanpdragon4/Krait phones which about to enter the market, judging by how good the dual/adreno225 ones are.

so what are you telling me my desktop pc still has dual core 2 duo while my next phone should have quad-core?

Something is not right here
it's just the updated chip that a lot of the htc-one/gs3 use.... faster cpu and gpu, i don't particually care wether it's dual/quad/oct personally.

Erm, not quite. One X is Tegra, SGS3 Intl is a dual-core S4, but with Adreno 225. The real Kraits really are just coming to market now; Xiaomi Phone 2, Optimus G, Padfone 2.

afaik
sgs3 intl is exynos quad core and doesn't support 4g/lte, the usa one is s4 dual core and does support 4g.
htc-onex intl is Tegra3 but the US one is the same as the US sgs3, s4 dual core.
The handset cost me £169 and the contract is 2 years at £47 per month which includes unlimited text, unlimited minutes and 2GB data. I also got £12 per month insurance.

The LTE Version of SGS3(NA) is the one with a dual core Krait. The International version has the Exynos quad.
Most quad core phones which have 4G versions run on the S4 Snapdragon SoC by Qualcomm. This is mostly because other chipsets do not support a 4G radio that's included on the board.
Expect quad cores with 4G support soon though, quad S4 phones are bound to come out soon (See the Optimus G, for example).
