I used to adhere to Adaware, SpywareGuard, and SpyBot S&D, but nowadays would recommend simply the following for cleanup:
Ccleaner
MalwareBytes
Combofix
HijackThis
I'm actually stupefied that no one mentioned the last two until just a couple of posts ago - they're like... um, mandatory LOL.
After that, use MSE or AVG, it really doesn't make much difference - Trojans are called Trojans because YOU are the one who brings it inside the gates of the city, and even ten "ARE YOU REALLY REALLY SURE" warnings wouldn't be enough for some braindead folks.
Pick one anyway and use it though. Stay away from that Norton crap. Peter Norton retired years ago back when PCTools was another viable suite of utilities and that new Symantec stuff just doesn't measure up.
Set account restrictions (by group) for the *other* users of your system - if you have only one login account and everyone is using that then you're a fool.
Monitor the discussions here too: http://www.safer-networking.org
Run UNIX when you can. It's much safer, more powerful, and much more stable than wYNd0z3, and has much more software available (Most of it free too). In fact I can only think of three things that I would need a wYNd0z3 machine for:
1.) Adobe 6 Suite - i.e., Dreamweaver, etc. (GIMP instead of Photoshop, BTW)
2.) QuickBooks (So many better alternatives for UNIX or Cloud based solutions)
3.) vSphere and vCenter
I don't use Quickbooks, I have my own solutions that are cloud based, but I mention it above because so many folks think it's the only accounting package they can afford (While most really good ones are actually free)
I only occasionally fire up Dreamweaver, so I keep the Adobe suite on a couple of Windows 2008 R2 boxes that I use for vCenter server and vSphere clients. The funny thing is, I do most of my cloud management inside of CloudStack anyway nowadays, or in a shell on the ESXi host directly (although the latest version is really stripped down and crippled for working on the cli).
Although all of the IDEs and editors I most love are free and better than their wYNd0z3 contemporaries (Well, PyCharm isn't free, but Geany and Eric4 are excellent and free), I do find that I miss PSpad.
That's really not too bad - Only one wYNd0z3 app I really miss, and only three I need on a regular enough basis to have a few wYNd0z3 virtual machines.
Oh! Having said that, I'd like to add one more thing to the maintenance of your systems health and cleanup - Snapshots! Take lots of snapshots on a regular basis of your system, You can always roll back if some bonehead detonates something on your machine while you're at work - and you've lost nothing after a 30 second recovery
One last thing - and it was only mentioned once above - get and use defrag software.
I hope that helps!
Kindest regards,
.

Oh my bad! I didn't realize were were supposed to troll here in this forum - did you have something constructive to contribute to the thread or do you prefer to just troll instead?

Yes you are new I guess, not knowing trolling was as commonplace as the blue background here..
And I did contribute to the thread earlier, but the last post was a 'troll' I guess as you put it. Even thought it was more of a 'pointing out an observation' more than a 'troll'...but we will overlook that mistake, its a common one.
Pointing out the arrogance of alternative OS users to label other OS's with cutesy 'leet speek' names in an attempt to go:
"I use it, but only in a kid like way of requirement..but let it be known I don't like using it as IM above such a mainstream and 'common user' OS..and will display it by passively mocking it whenever I make reference to it as such".
But I do appreciate your reply, an attempt to make me 'feel embarrassed' for posting such useless information, and in turn having you call me out on it. But sadly my I lost that ability to 'give a rats ass' for being called our years ago. But cant blame you for trying.
So yes..it was a troll post, so 1 constructive, and 1 non-constructive post each for me in the thread..so my sum total is null so far as they cancel each other out.
