Android just dose nothing for me, so much less refined than ios and yes I have an Android device. Hoping that the interview I have with Sprint tomorrow goes well so I can get a free iphone 5.

I can't see the reason to increase screen height but not width.
I'm currently playing around with the S3, it feels huge compared to my Iphone, but I'm quickly getting used to it. I'd love an Iphone with a screen this size. As pointed out android just doesn't feel as refined and as solid as the ios. But I see no reason to upgrade to Iphone 5 from a 4S.

Same width means every well-written software with well defined views will look good (at least in portrait). If the entire resolution is increased, say to 1280x854, it would mean developers would have to include an entire new set of graphics just for that resolution. It also means every single app on the store right now would look horrible. That's retarded an nobody wants that. It would a complete opposite of how Apple has set its development process.
And fuck that huge screen shit. With this new size, they almost didn't resize the phone, whereas the S3/One X are huge, and you can't operate it with one hand properly. But I agree that it's unnecessary. The shift to a wider screen is a bad move in my opinion. The previous 3:2 format worked well for both landscape and portrait, and was excellent for image viewing (3:2). This is a shift for the worse. Now most landscape apps would look ridiculous, while portrait apps would have very little to gain, and image viewing is less than optimal.
Hate my android phone. Glad work got that for me. Cringe everytime I have to use it. My iPhone4s does it all and well.
Not sold on this bigger screen either. I feel the current size for iphone is perfect. If I need a bigger screen, thats what my tablet is for.

It's one of the main arguments Apple fans use against Android (you just did), yet here they go on doing the same - either stop blasting Android for it or hate the new form factor, can't have it both ways. Mind you, a 4.3" Android phone has roughly the same height, yet is wider as well because of the aspect ratio. I can still reach the left side fine on a 4.3" phone, it's just the top where I really have to stretch. I'd still have to stretch for the top on this thing, yet I wouldn't really benefit from any extra screen space at all. They should've just stuck with 3.5".
I'm still on my 3.7" Desire, hoping for a 3.7-4.0" 720p phone at some point. The iPhone feels a bit too small in my hands, the Desire still has the best size for me.

But it's true, the 3:2 aspect ratio is really good, especially for photo viewing. Now it's just yet another wide/tall phone. Applications are going to look ridiculous in landscape mode. And what's the point? One more row in the table visible?
It's really frustrating, I must say.

@ Leo: yeah there's nothing wrong with the 3:2 aspect ratio, but this new aspect ratio is just silly in every way. I really should get a new phone, but there's nothing out there to my liking. The shit keyboard on iOS is still putting me off buying an iPhone and the Android trend is big, biggest, biggest. So I'll just stick with my Desire, it still does its job plenty well, just a shame that its ROM is so tiny, ICS/JB fit..but barely.
