Anyone else find themselves checking that site less and less? I really hate that its no longer good OLD games but now whatever games we can get a hold of to fill our library? I mean its cool to get drm free games but I'd rather see them focus on getting more classics likebthe old command n conquers....syndicate wars...doom quake etc...

I kinda feel the same way, I feel the whole GOG community went kinda silent after the expansion to new games. I am still not sure if this was the right step for them....

I pointed that out a long time ago and people laughed at me.
I knew that would happen..

I felt the same for the most part and thought MAYBE some good would come of it. I mean I see no real bad of it, I just wish they'd focus on more of what's important. I wouldn't even mind if they only did Indie's as well but these AAA games have no place on that site.

Not really, no. They ARE adding old games ( recently: Lands of Lore, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, Startopia...for most it'is the only place you can buy them ). Is it really that bad they broadened the catalogue while staying true to their goals: Good games, no DRM ?

@Spykez With a noAAA attitude there would be no place Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment Smile

Well the difference being, those are actually old games. Like I said, it's not bad that they're adding all this new stuff, I would just rather them stick to their priorities and get those old dos games.

Hell, I'd shit bricks for Shadow Warrior, or Claw, Or the Commander Keen games.

Maybe they'll add them eventually. Remember that they want to have the rights toglobal distribution, and that may be a bit hard with some really old games.

I'd love to see Clans
http://www.gamershell.com/pc/clans/screenshots.html

It's a surprisingly good game. Played it years ago, now it's gone from the web Sad

Considering their goals were good OLD games, no drm, then no they didn't stay true to their goals, especially when you consider they've added some shitty games too

Same here, a bunch of us said that when they announced the expansion into "new game" territory and all we got back was a lot of grief for it. Good OLD Games, not "Good Games" Neutral Same goes with Green Man Gaming, the site was set up and based around fixing the problem of not being able to trade in your games -- that was the point! Now look at it. GMG is predominantly full of games you can't trade! WAT.

Personally I don't get it. They are still doing the same old, adding old games, it's just that they also have a few other games. Also the comment about adding whatever games they can is really unfair.

For me they have just expanded a bit, without taking away from the core. There is also a limit of games they can add, it will run out eventually. I'm still waiting for Birthright the gorgons alliance Very Happy

Also the "new" games they have added are really good no?

I just really don't understand what you guys expect and want from gog.com.

Nobody wants it to go bankrupt, people want it to stick to its principles and origins. The site is called "Good Old Games" -- not "Good Games That You Can Get Everywhere Else Too"

I don't see a problem as long as they stick to their own games/indie stuff/genres that aren't too popular anymore(Resonance, Inquisitor, Retro City Rampage).

It's not like they're releasing Call of Doody and other crap like that.

It's actually not anymore. It's simply GOG. I for one like that they put newer games too. And you don't get what you get by buying them from somewhere else. Every game on GOG is sold like a Digital Collector's Edition, plus it's DRM-free which in some cases may even mean better performance. What they do now actually is put games that are good and have that classic feel to it (see Legend of Grimrock and now Inquisitor). I'm fine with that.

I hope they will keep their games in a single-installing, no cdkeys, no internet check, no game client packages forever.

Nope, not anymore. They ditched that part some time ago, and are now only called GOG.com.

I see they have jumped on the DayZ bandwagon and broke their "No DRM" rule as well.

GOG is selling Arma II :CO and it requires a CD key for multiplayer.

"DRM Free" eh?

Well due to how the servers work the only other way would have been to not add a serial and remove the MP capability altogether, though I don't see a MP only cd-key as a actual DRM.

Its drm. Of course its drm.

What else is CD key authentication if its not Digital Rights Management?
That is its entire purpose, the only reason it exists.

Sure maybe its not a s invasive as securom or starforce or whatever, but its still DRM.

If it could not be removed then they should not be selling it.

Hmm well if you see it like that then I guess you are correct, though since it's not used for installing or playing the game otherwise but anyway they did remove the serial for another title which had a similar setup and thus disabled multiplayer entirely but this is a more recent game with a active community so it probably wasn't a choice they were willing to sacrifice.

Unless they could somehow use the F2P version and how that works online somehow, probably not their choice though and more depending on what Bohemia Interactive decides.

EDIT: I don't see a easy solution for what they could have done without alienating the GOG community from online altogether or separating them to a specific server without cd-key requirements (Open servers or what it's called.) or otherwise imposing limitations.

Actually, GOG provides CD-keys for MP, if you buy the damn game. If it's not sent in the order receipt, you can ask their support and the key WILL BE PROVIDED!

Also, the ARMA2 MP it's designed with servers that are checking your CD-key in mind. You can't ask GOG to change that, as they are just publishers for ARMA2: Combat Operations, this time around.

GOG can't change the content of a game without the agreement of the IP owner: Bohemia Interactive in this game. Keep in mind that ARMA2 original server design was to check your copy and the only one that can modify this is BIS. Won't happen, as the costs of implementations are a bit high for an indie studio like BIS. So GOG removed the SP protection, but had no other choice but to keep the MP protection.

Personally, i have no problems with a simple CD-key for MP purposes. Try buying ARMA2 through Steam and you get FADE, STEAM and SP/MP CD-key, so....What do you chose?!

You know, my Neverwinter Nights Platinum also has cd keys. They even send you personal multiplayer key if you wish ( at least they did, maybe it's automated now ).

Of course you don't have to do anything, just install the game and play it, but OMG, DRM!!
