I put way too much hours into BD1. And I'm afraid to say BD2 looks just as fun.

@DR/Mirko

Hell yeah! I honestly couldn't count the amount of hours I've put into BL, definitely one of my most beloved games ... even if it does get samey-samey after a dozen hours. HOWEVER! I'd like to defend the samey-samey notion with; Diablo 2 is every bit as repetitive, possibly even more so, yet it's still loved by millions Very Happy

Hehe in my case I definitely blame the fact that hack & slash games or the ones with repetitive tasks in general tend to bore me after a while (all of them), unless they're supported by heavy RPG elements/deep storyline. I recognize that I'm not the norm though. Razz

Aye, a lot of these H'n'S titles end up being repetitive and can be quite dull for a lot of people. I don't know what it is, but something about aRPGs like this really click for me Smile

QUE?!
What game have you been playing then? Must have been a different Borderlands...

Nah I don't know what it was that bored me to death. I loved the art style and I loved the world they created. But the gameplay itself was just so boring. I'm ok with rinse and repeat grind fests, I played Diablo II for god knows how many years and still go back to it.

I think it was how lifeless it was. Nothing had life to it, the combat was unresponsive, the driving just felt like your were skating.

The two things that I need in a game is Story and Sound. I can do without one or the other but this game had neither. What really sold me on the game was the idea of randomly generated guns and it was an asbolute borefest. Most of it was just meh stat changes. Like one would have slightly better accuracy and such. BL2 actually seems like that they improved that system so I guess I'll just test it out first.

I think also, the biggest killer for me was the trash online play it had. More than most of the time I didn't get to play with my friends because you had to go through hell just to get on a game.

Hellgate London and Borderlands were probably the two games I was the most hyped up over ever, and both of them really failed to deliver.

I played the crap out of BL even with its problems. Hell I even own it on both platforms.

I preorderd this one as soon as I was able to do so. Here's hoping they didn't skimp on the PC this time. I think they improved nearly every other aspect of the game.

ugh, how many times were we even able to play online? Every time we tried it failed. I did get to play with you and your kids that one time though.

There was a system! Try to connect, fail, let friend host fail. Log out of gamespy/quit game and repeat. Eventually it worked.

Now with steam free weekend it just worked instantly every time we played, so they must have fixed that to steam version. Agree you on that it was really frustrating, but once you got co-op going, ah it didn't matter.

Everything that's good and bad about D3 is what was good and bad about BL to me. Good design, nice presentation..but also terrible online play, god aweful loot and some seriously fucked up game mechanics in some places. That said, I don't know if any of that last part was patched, maybe I should give the game another go.

Borderlands 1 coop worked OKish, just invite ingame and not in the lobby, that one nearly always fails. Also, in our experience it worked best if you had the same person host the game everytime Wink

I never had problems with it and I thought it was a really good and simple system. That's why I never understood the hate for Gamespy.

When I played my (coincidentally last ever) co-op session on BL1 with a bunch of friends, we also never had any issues with Gamespy and the connection - it always just seemed to work, even when I was in another country to them. That and it was "free" to play the pirate version online grinhurt

Ever since then though, I've not gone back to co-op and I've lost all interest in pretty much any online title... with the exception of DayZ and MechWarrior Online (which is surprisingly good fun once you figure out the grouping so you don't rape your heat levels)

I'm going to end up buying this regardless if I hate it or not. I'm a sucker for co-op games. Won't be for a long time, between buying games for people and buying a game for someone else on faith I'd get the money back I'm pretty much tapped out for months lol. Maybe all the BS bugs Gearbox will obviously forget about will get patched and I'll feel a little better about it.

Could anyone here try to briefly explain to me please, i.e a person who have completely skipped the first game (Embarassed), what Borderlands is all about?

As I understand it, it's a peculiar mixture of FPS and Diablo-like hack'n'slash, right? Does it have quests, leveling, equipment then?

It's a fps/rpg mix.

Yes, it does have quests , leveling, equipment, etc.

It's my favorite game ever and I'm currently playing it through for the 4th time.

Oh we played more than once. I agree it could be a pain in the ass, but when it worked it was fun. I played with some other buddies pretty regularly. . . completed the game with one.
But I am hoping that they fixed everything in this one.

I really hated the fact that the 1st one had a FOV of 40. Could never bring mysefl to play it due to constant headaches and the fact that I had to look around for ages due to the 40 FOV. I hope they do deliver on launch day with the fov slider since I bought it under that condintion

There is a fov workaround available (along with other tweaks) so that you can adjust your fov.
