I enjoy the game reasonably well but it seriously depends on which profession you pick - my thief was not at all fun to play and kept dying - she took insane amounts of damage and for all the stealth skills that were available, they really nerfed them since beta to a level where they're practically useless for escaping death unless you're in a big group fight - and in a group fight, I'd just use a bow and keep clear of getting killed anyway!
The mesmer is far better - I only died three times so far to get to level 15 (and I was really not at all cautious about how I played) and the illusions you create, distract the enemies far better than crappy stealth would ever do.

Son, lemme tell ya something. I don't know what class you played, but was no thief. You may have played some class but you never were, or ever will be, a thief.

I seem to struggle in Queensdale from level 13-15, I complete the whole area way too early, and I kinda wander around waiting for events so I can finally level up.
Anyone else finding this?

Yea, don't do that. You should go to a 10-20 zone or one of the other starters and level there. Thanks to the leveldown you can do a few of the hearts and events on the edge of the zones and get experience very close to your level.
