omfg.... half life 1 and opposing force expansion are amongs the finest FPS moments in gaming history. play them dude
don't. i know it sounds stupid and a lot of people will attack me literally right after i post this, but in my experience once you've missed a game with more than 7 years after its release it starts to get really hard to enjoy it. yes, HL1 is one of my all time favorite games, and graphics is not what makes a game good, but really outdated graphics and engine could ruin even a perfect game. my advice is to play the second part if you haven't played it yet. it's not the original Half Life for sure, but its a good game and it innovates a lot of things in the gaming industry as a whole. i'm replaying it right now and i`m enjoying it, and yes, im sure this is my last replay of HL2.
if you're so eager to play the original i suggest you wait a bit to see if Black Mesa actually gets released (which i seriously doubt) and play this one.
in my defense for all of the above - people who have played the original when it was released back in `98 can still enjoy the game because they associate the game with the pleasant memories of playing it (or a similar one) and its easier for them to ignore the graphics and engine. if your first game ever played was Half Life 2 - well good luck trying to enjoy everything that came out prior. i entered PC gaming with the endless deathmatches of Quake 2 and Delta Force 1. i know DooM 1 & 2 were considered great games, i didn't manage to look past the visuals and controls of the game and therefore couldn't enjoy them.
Blood 2 was one of my all time favorite games as well and i tried replaying it a couple of years ago. that lasted about 30 minutes. and keep in mind that when it was released it was considered bloody eyecandy.
and as for Black Mesa - fuck this shit, it ain't coming out. fool me 257 times - shame on me. fool me 258 times - shame on ME.
Funny part about Delta Force is that it still looks decent considering how ancient it is.
I'd pay good money for a new Delta Force / Delta Force 2 game that actually stays true to the gameplay of the originals.
wow that was 1998? I don't remember it looking this good ?
Lighting on the gun, long range distance. nice

They used the same engine up until Task Force Dagger. Then when they tried to 'change the direction' of Delta Force with black hawk down they ruined the series IMO.
What is interesting is that back when Delta Force came out most people didn't think it was a very good looking game. We all thought Half-Life was much better looking, or UT.
But if you compare those games to Delta Force now - I think Delta Force has aged a hell of a lot better.
If one were to increase the resolution of the original Delta Force engine/game to support higher resolutions I think it would look pretty damn good still, and really if you look at Task Force Dagger you'll see how good of graphics that voxel engine is capable of doing with increased resolution.
xen was a small part which I don't really link to my hl1 experience too much

So many people flipping because of Xen not included. I guess they forgot (or propably don't even know) how huge HL1 is
The game could be 10 minutes or 10 hours, they're still removing the final part of it. Tell me again how that is okay Honestly, it's been YEARS so far... I'm sure a decade or two more won't change anything. Cancel the release, fix the finale, then release the whole package.
*shrugs* Any other game from anyone else and this would be cause for uproar, but it's magically okay when it's HL1. I'm going to continue waiting until they release the full package, that's for sure
I guess I just don't have the same attachment since I always preferred HL2 anyhow, everything about it was just... better. That, of course, doesn't diminish how much I enjoyed HL1 though That's why I'm going to wait for the whole thing, it seems kinda silly to want the game so badly that we're willing to forsake the end of it.

Yes
No, really. They are improving tha game beyond the revamping of graphics, with more gameplay options (you use them or not, it's your choice) and now they're overhauling the Xen section of the game which as you see, several big HL fans didn't love that much (I don't include myself in that group though), improving it enough for it to be a separate game. For me that can only be great news
This still sound too familiar to that Jedi Knight - Mod called "Knights of the Force". Promised gold and green forest, pushed up release date. To manage to release the thing, it was supposed to be released in two parts.100000 excuses later it actually got released and it was just shit....so well..
Counter or not, I won't hold my breath until this actually IS released and I can try it. If it is, and if it will be good. I'll be the first one to tip my hat of to them.
With that said I hope this will be legit, because a updated HL1 would be a blast!
I'm not blasting the team, I just think it's a bit odd removing the END of the game just so they can get it out the door faster ... which is odd considering how long the bloody thing has been in development. I'll be the first the shout "This is fucking awesome!!" once I've played it.

That Tim-guy from Knight of the Force did the same...and he had like 100000 of excuses to why it got delayed. He did take money for the thing though, so it was kind of a scam.
I'm with you though, if this turns out good or at least what they promised. I'll be there first in line to give them cred.
After all, it is a mod and most of those things never get completed because there are people doing it on their spare time, so I'm not really blasting the team either.
Back in the 2001 when I first played HL I really hated Xen levels. And this year when I replayed it I really enjoyed those levels...dafuq is wrong?! Im getting old

Aye, I may shout "vaporware!" all the time but most of the time that anger and annoyance comes from actually wanting to play the game and having to wait year after year for it. I have full realisation that they're doing this profit-free and in their own time and I will gladly shout their praises once I've played it.
Oh well, I'm sure Xen will be out in the next couple of years and I can wait
