I know it isn't. You can add Deus Ex Human Revolution and BioShock, which run very smooth on 720p on Intel 3000. Smile

I'm just going to chime in that I love my gaming laptop. Tri core cpu + amd 5650 plays pretty much anything I want. I don't use it until I go back to my hometown where my best friends are and we lan often. So lugging all that hardware with me is rather bothersome when I can just plop my laptop in my bag, go to the lan and play anything and everything I want with no slow downs. Most games we play max out just fine. Only a 700 dollar laptop too.

There is a market for them for those of us always on the move. However...it'll never replace my <3 desktop <3

Multimonitor support is something I agree is one area where laptops cannot offer real solution, and the problem is there are not enough hardware connectors. But not everyone needs that. Even I dislike the idea to some extent, and prefer to just replace with one larger screen. And we're power users. The vast majority of computer users need none of that. Indeed, for the causal office user, where word, internet and video watching is required, a laptop is better suited for the job than the desktop+laptop combo, and let's face it, that is the majority of users. The fact that even these casual users are voicing a bad opinion of Windows 8 is indicative that merging of a tablet OS and a desktop OS is not a desired outcome of the future of computing.

But if you ain't gaming, laptops are a much preferred solution. Less noise, less heat, much less space, elegant, powerful enough for almost anything, mobile. With the MacBook Air (and other ultraportables), the size and power variables are even more moot, as these tiny things are workhorses (considerably for their size), while being very nice to carry. Please don't compare a laptop to a tablet. Tablet also has its place, it is very nice to consume data on, for instance. Reading on the iPad, especially with its high-density screen is very nice.

However, and there's a large one, an OS for one does not fit the other, and vice versa. Microsoft has to do this welding to ensure an artificial potential to their market, and fool developers into thinking this is the future, and they should invest in their platform.

Whilst smartscreen is a bit horrid for general PC use (it does have its uses of course, I'd be tempted to turn it on for my parents for example) the article above is a fairly OTT view on how it works and the "security risks" it creates. Take it with a huge pinch of salt (and turn off smartscreen when offered during install Wink!).

Nice! Useful application, I'll give it a try later Smile!

Quote:
Manually Disable Hot Corners

Open Registry Editor (press Win+R, type regedit.exe in Run dialog and press Enter) and navigate to the following registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell

Right-click on ImmersiveShell and select New > Key. Name the key EdgeUI.

Right-click on EdgeUI and select New > DWORD and name it DisableTLcorner. Create another DWORD and name this one DisableCharmsHint.

DisableTLcorner stands for “Disable Top-Left corner”. Double-click it and change its value from 0 to 1. Switcher will not appear when you move your mouse to the top-left corner of the screen. However, it still appears when you move the pointer to the bottom-left corner and then move it upwards along the left edge of the screen.

DisableCharmsHint: Double-click it and change its value from 0 to 1 to disable the Charms bar when using the mouse. The Charms Bar will not appear when you move the pointer to the top-right or bottom-right corners. But like the Switcher, if you move the pointer to the top-right corner and then move it down along the right edge of the screen (or from the bottom-right corner up to the screen center along the right edge), it’ll appear again.

The settings take effect immediately, you do not have to restart Windows Explorer. To re-enable the default behavior of Switcher, simply set DisableTLcorner value to 0 or delete it. Same goes for DisableCharmsHint value.

Right now OS X and Windows 7 are the most elegant OSes out there, and Windows 7 isn't the direction MS is taking.

In before some Linux nubcake posts how elegant a Linux can look, and I'll post some software screenshots. Software != OS, but it all has to be taken under account.

Seems some Intel drivers have some various issues, thought I was back with Vista after seeing blue "happy" screen one after another, turns out those readme files are actually useful and do mention how to not install this or that unsupported feature. Smile

Ah the problems of early OS adaption we face. Very Happy
(That said I like the speed improvements and other things but I have a number of things I dislike as well, hopefully Windows will improve after the feedback they get from people talking about this OS.)

EDIT: That said it helps one to improve further and learn and I guess if it was easy it wouldn't be especially fun. Very Happy

Vista wasn't a bad OS once the hotfixes for it came out and resolved some OS problems instead of just security and specific program hotfixes, most people probably noticed that first with SP1 though. Smile

Will be interesting to see what Microsoft will do now, would be nice if they had some real competition but I guess that's difficult with all these closed standards and API's used by it.

Um.. no. The recently announced list of titles are all XBLA games, most likely all created in XNA which is cross-platform.
