Whoa! Snake Eater is fucking great, despite the fact that the control might feel awkward coming from MGS4. Just go with it coz it's totally worth it. Also Subsistence camera So Much Win

Well im old enough to remember and I'm sorry to say it but snake does look identical to sam fisher in that getup, only a slightly more fetishy version with those PVC boots and gloves Rolling Eyes No grey suit? no headband? yup thats sam!

Snake Eater is the best in the series and one of my favorite game of all time. Best characters , best story . best dialogue and i could go on and on. Storyline and character development wse its better than many movies and tv shows.

Make sure to listen to all the codecs discussions. They add a lot of depth to the story. Smile

I will go with either mgs2 or 3 first.

Can someone remind me what was going on in mgs1 or is it irrelevant? I enver liked it much and don't even finished I think (was to young)

Also, Am I loosing much not playing mgs4? I can always watch a youtube let's play

In the first MGS you play as Solid Snake ( as opposed to Snake Eater where you play Big Boss ). Main story takes place in 1995, whereas Snake Eater is a prequel so it won't have much of an impact on the story comprehensibility (?! long word), other than a few references you won't get. I won't say more so i won't spoil anything.

As for MGS2, i'm currently about halfway through it and it's got some really great bits in it as well, it's just not on the same level as Snake Eater. Also old-school camera Okay One of the most frustrating things about the HD collection is that they haven't added an option to pause cutscenes, and some of them are pretty frigging long.

MGS 4 is supposed to end Snake's story with loads and loads of references to the past games. If you want to see what the story in Snake Eater leads to, then you could watch it or just read the synopsis on wiki. (I actually watched a playthrough on wiki @ 480p way before i got a ps3 and i did enjoy it. 20 hours or so with cutscenes though)

I must say though, the resemblance is astonishing:

MGS is best played and understood as a whole. If you really want the full experience you should play the whole saga from 1 to 4 in that order. MGS 1 is still a great game even after all these years. Portable Ops and Peace Walker are nice too and set after Snake Eater. I recommend them if you have a PSP but they arent as integral as MGS 1-4 . They add a nice depth touch though and more character develpment.

There are also the NES versions (Metal Gear and Snake Revenge) that are set before MGS 1 but they are pretty old and dated now. They were still 2 of my favorite games when they came out years ago.

Peace walker is also in the hd collection for 360. They redone controls, camera and it is... Well in hd now unlike psp original.
Bu for now I will play mgs 3 and 2 in some time when time will allow it. These games require long sessions.
Psp game looks terrible even in that hd collection so it might be hard to chew next to well aged 2 and 3

Speaking of which, you should be able to play them from within the Snake Eater Main Menu. I think they were added in the Subsistence release originally.

Not to be "one of those guys", but that's not entirely accurate - those games are actually MSX versions ... Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake didn't even hit the NES, it was an MSX2 exclusive (in Japan too, no English release) until MGS3-S on the PS2.

Just a bit of trivia there grinhurt

I'm not talking about the same games and, sorry to say, neither are you Wink Well.. the second one at least. The first one (Metal Gear) was originally an MSX2 title, later ported to the NES, the version that comes with MGS3-S is the MSX version, not the NES one. As for the second game? That's not the one that comes with MGS3-S --- the one that comes with MGS3 isn't "Snake's Revenge", it's "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" a title that was only available on MSX and only in Japan, until the PS2 MGS3 release.

While a previously developed Metal Gear sequel titled Snake's Revenge (a non-canonical installment produced without Kojima's involvement) was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America during the same year, Metal Gear 2 itself did not have an official English version until its inclusion as a bonus game (along with the original Metal Gear) in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for PlayStation 2 in 2006, almost 16 years after its original Japanese release.

Ahhhhh ok i get it now. I knew that Snake's Revenge wasnt considered canon but now i know why. Its not the true sequel to MG. Gotta say that i never played the real MG2 then. Never really noticed that it wasn't Snake Revenge on MG3-S but i never really bothered or payed attention so...

Thanlks for the info

This sounds very good Very Happy. I love MGS saga a lot, it's one of the games I grew up with. I haven't played MGS 4 though, cause I have no PS3, but I did all else. I think MGS 3 was my favorite. It's so brilliant, the graphics, interaction, story.

the thing is xbox hd version has all 6 games [even the two MSX versions and the NES game there are in MGS3 in Extras Wink and they have quick save and all wow like they where XBLA conversions !!! ] except MGS 1 psone and MGS 3 is the censored US version ;( with no snake theater and skate board levels and monkey hunts

ps3 HD on the other hand has all 7 games , mgs 1 is a download code that i got in the box that you type in and you get your PSone classic MGS1 to play it on your ps3

and when you go here to a random saturn store you can get all 8 games [HD + mgs4 bundle ]

heh must find the time to complete those only finished mgs and mgs 2 now only 5 left to compete hehe

the thing is i bought ps3 only for mgs4 and ... in the end i only played MGSO in it and well never finished the campaign HEHE [ MGS4 are 3 games in one Virtual MIssions , Main Campaign and Online component that instalss like 8 gigs to your hdd + 3 gigs of patches ] this and Socom with resistance 2 the most addictive multiplayer games ever0

This game could be my dream come true if it comes to PC. The amount of gun porn in MGS4 was awesome. Open world + portions similar to Peace Walker ='s autowin in my book. /drool....

I never got to play Peace Walker because it doesn't work on 3.55 cfw Sad Is it any similar in terms of gameplay to the first game that hit the PSP (can't remember the name). Is it structured in small areas which you visit(sometimes multiple times) to complete random objectives ? I did see a couple of vids showcasing some pretty cool CQC though.

same scheme ... too bad they didn't port this also and AC!D but hey i smell HD collection part 2 MGS1 , Portable ops and AC!D 1 and 2

the thing is its kinda fucked up with the story line IF you didn't play MGS 3 you will not get the story like of Portable ops and Peace Walker

MGS 3 is set during the Cold War in 1964
Portable ops is set in 1970 in South America, six years after the events of Snake Eater
Pace Walker is set in 1974 in Central America, four years after the Events of Portable Ops

Now I am even more looking forward to playing mgs2 and 3. I will not play mgs1(only read it up) and not sure about pace walker,
