Fuck it, I know everyone bitches about it all the time, but my C: just crashed for no reason, and I lost all my CD's for windows. I ended up acquiring one from somewhere and I go to do a windows repair, which I've done before and it's never actually worked, but I gave it a shot, and it didn't work . Fucking.. death to windows.
So then I do a straight up format, and it gives me some wacky fatal error. Now I'm sitting on my laptop, which I'm lucky to have, but it's not comfortable hunching over this thing for long periods of time. Anyway, fuck windows for giving me the option to use a feature that doesn't fucking work, but does consume a lot of time. Though it is partially my fault for having faith in the software, I just became somewhat ignorant, I had that install of windows for over a year, and was just thinking about how great it was the other day. Fucking jynxed myself, but fuck windows and such.

I've heard that before. I've also uninstalled one peice of software and it's fucked up the entire registry. Windows has issues; See - Windows crashing on launch.

I have one Linux machine, and one windows machine. Both are solid as a rock.
If you have issues with your PC and windows, it would either sugest that the user is at fault, or the hardware.
If you have good hardware, and you aint a complete idiot installing every last bit of software you can lay your grubby mitts on, then there is no reason why windows should crash anymore than any other OS.
Of course the problem is that the vast majority of users on PC's buy cheap, use windows install every last bit of software they can get there hands on and then moan that its the operating systems fault, when it crash's

If you are doing that the right way, and you are getting an error when trying to format your root partition, then it sugests that the hardware could be at fault.

To state any OS is as stable as the user only works if the OS in itself it stable. There are so many exploited holes in Windows XP it is crazy. You cant keep a none updated windows xp with out a firewall for more than 24 minutes online.
Cant wait to start the Unix Course.

Redhat linux, has more patches last year than windows....
Now on one side thats a good thing, but on the other side it means if you dont patch it its insecure.

There was some test that they would see how long a none update OS would live before getting infected with default set up. RH9 survived (thanks to the firewall I guess), and so did Win XP Sp2.
I think it is a bit more complex that just an amount of patches as it also depends on how long did it take for a patch to come for a discovered hole or some stability issues, and the how serious the hole is. And then Windows is a bigger target and most Nix/Bsd users have some knowledge about securing their OS.

true, but at the end of the day, like I said in the initial post, it comes down to the user who installs the patches.
