We have no idea so far. All we know is that they claim that only things like xp/money boosts will be unatainable without forking up real money.

As to how grindy it will be we simply do not know. Money gain is quite fast in the beta but repair/ammo costs aren't implemented yet.

Edit: \o/

We don't know yet as repair and ammo costs haven't been implemented yet.

Edit: Sad

Also currently I find it hard to see this game being too grindy, atleast for me. Atleast personally I tend to find a setup I like fairly fast and then just gather c-bills in a pile untill the next wipe happens. Then it's a bit more grind to get enough money to pimp up the new mech. And concidering how damn fun I'm having it doesn't feel like a grind at all.

But we'll just have to wait see how it goes once repair costs are in I suppose.

The game to me feels similar to Navy Field.

If you've ever played Navy Field you'd know that skill trumps just about everything. You can absolutely butt rape a massive battleship in Navy Field with a frigate and it's torpedo's if you are good enough.

So yes, you can 'subscribe' for premium which just rewards you with more money/XP after each round. Yes, you can buy certain things as well. In the end none of it will help you if you suck though.

And really, all the skilled players won't even be playing Atlas/Heavy all that much anyways. Light/Medium IMO have a higher skill ceiling. Anyone can work together in a team with an Atlas and just mash the button to shoot. Only people who know what they are doing can be truly effective with lights, or glass cannon mediums.

you make it sound like there is no such thing as high skilled with atlas, same saying as sprinting smg user will always beat sniper even at close range, gaming history would disagree, where sniper 1 shots even at close range disadvantage

Can't 1 shot anything with the AC/20 which is the most powerful weapon in the game currently, and more then just Heavy/Atlas can equip the AC/20. You can throw it on a medium mech variant, but IMO taking the medium mech that has the 6 laser shoulder pod is better then the AC/20 shoulder pod.

And no, I never said that. What I did say is that the skill ceiling for the lighter mechs is higher though.

I hope there will be other heavy mechs besides the Atlas. I liked to steer a Stone Rhino in MW2 quite a lot. It could even be interesting to include a superheavy Omega which I imagine would pose a challenge for a team of lighter mechs but also be quite satisfying to bring down with the right tactics.

Is it still a pre-clans era Mechwarrior by the way? Or was that idea ditched once they went this f2p route?

The "in-game" date advances at the same time as irl, so atm it's August 7 3049 according to their timeline, tomorrow will be the 8th and so on. I'm not too good with battletech lore but I think it's like 6 month to a year or so before the clans will show up.

The major theme of MWO/MW5 is that during the game being 'live' the clans are pushing in.

Just got my key and fired the game up. It seems like good fun, and not too grindy, imho. Unfortunately, I'm at work, so I won't be able to play too much until I get home. I'm happy to answer any questions that anyone has (if any), even if it violates the NDA, since I hate those fucking things.

First of all, what game mods are there? Is it just usual team deathmatch or there's something more?
And, is it worth paying $60 for the Elite pack and 1 founder's mech?
If not, is it worth paying $30 for the Veteran pack at least?

I just wish someone could make Mech RPG..

Front Mission!! So Much Win Grab yourself a SNES emulator + the translated versions of FM and FM2, then get ePSXe and FM3, follow it up with PCSX2 and FM4 and the translated copy of FM5.

Glorious games, absolutely glorious -- FM3/4 are by far the best.

Right now they only have assault mode which is just team deathmatch / base cap. Kill the entire team, or cap the base and your team wins.

I imagine they will release more games modes once they get the game nailed down more.

Okay then, skip FM1/2 .. just get 3 and 4. Trust me, you won't regret it!

If you play on ePSXe with all the niceties turned on, the visuals are significantly improved too. Honestly... you'll play these and then you'll realise why everyone wanted to firebomb Square-Enix HQ after that vile piece of shit "Evolved" Mad Mad Mad

You also get 25% more c-bills and xp when piloting them.

I'd say the elite pack is worth it. 40 bucks of itemstore money, one month premium and a founder mech to help with ze grind.

What the motherfucking fuck, I played 2 matches and don't get any XP ? Is it because I'm using a trial mech ?

Also, what is up with that LRM bullshit, my rockets just seem to wander off and hit nothing. But the enemies seem to have no trouble. Do I have to lock on or something ? And what is up with the resolution and fov ? Are my settings even applied ?

I'm so disapppointed, I closed the game and will do some work instead. Thanks, game.

You're not missing anything, dude, the game doesn't even have collision detection you pass through your allies Very Happy

It's very far away from being a real game.

It has collision, but it's a bit iffy atm. Being able to pass through other mechs mostly happen at low speed iirc.
