Dunno what to say here, but mine worked straight up when I launched the game.
You made sure that the pad was on BEFORE you launched the game right? I've had some problems where whenever I start up my pad after I've already launched a game the game won't detect it.

yeah it was on before i started.. i tried a few other Steam games just now and they all work with the controller, this game doesnt respond to any of the buttons (GFWL does respond to the middle X button though).

You guys know you can go back and play your game after you quite right? Somone mentioned it doesn't save... The game saves fine, I played for two hours and quit, came back and I could continue, did I miss something?

i just grabbed it with the 'fix' (Dark_Souls_Prepare_To_Die_Edition_Crack_Fix-SKiDMARK) and it doesnt appear to be saving. what files are you using? which one do you run to play the game? if i run darksouls.exe i get a games for windows live pop-up (which i cancelled). if i run data.exe i get the game but it wont save. did you accept the pop-up?

You're supposed to make an offline account with the help of that "popup" assuming the crack works

Don't use ANY crack. Put back all the original files and then run Darksouls.exe, if you get an error "Files are corrupt" then go into the ZDP folder and run ZDP.exe. The game will unlock and you can now play from the Darksouls.exe file. No crack is needed. Then just do what Vikerness said; create an offline profile or use your existing Live profile but cancel the serial key input to go "offline" and play.

Ha ha, well back then (January) the PC version wasn't announced (Or even planned I guess.) so I've seen most of the game and read most wiki articles already, it's a different experience actually playing it though.
(But I do know where nearly everything is and how to fight most bosses and other enemies.)

Anyone else getting a crash back to desktop after starting the game with Durante's fix? Runs fine without the dx9 dll file.
Running windows 8 with xfire 6970's.

Well, the resolution fix is nice and all. I get the same 30 fps as before (and the same stutters at random intervals), but you can't read any messages on the ground. Are those important outside of the tutorial if you don't play online?

It works here so perhaps it's a issue with Crossfire and SLI?
You could try with a lower resolution in the ini file as well maybe?
(But it shouldn't be needed.)
Perhaps there's something on the NeoGaf forums in that thread about the game (And now this program.) that discusses this?

not so much, and if you change the .ini to ***x720 you can read the signs again, and the menu buttons, you can see too

The tutorial messages (Usually also have a separate icon.) are only seen rather early on in the game and will mention stuff like how to do certain things or certain game mechanics, player messages are mostly short composed notes of pre-defined words such as "amazing..." chest." being "amazing chest" when placed in front of a container which could denote good loot or could be used to trick someone.
They're not important though for online play giving a good message means players could up rate it and thus you gain one humanity extra for each vote.
EDIT: Was answered.

It crashed for me first but disabling logging in the .ini file was the solution. logLevel 0
