They got dumped by most non-Russian western studios due to significant backlash. Later versions of Starforce were less prone to destroying your machine, but by then the damage had been done and most publishers just stopped using it.

It was only worth the hassle (for the publishers) when it was hard to crack.
As soon as RLD started raping its asshole ... it was over soon.
RLD, like a BOSS. I will never forget.

Beyond? Yeah... definitely didn't live up to the awesomeness of what Divine was.

Basically SF is infact the best protection there was that didn't use stupid methods (and no it didn't need to rely on drive tricks either cause Chaos Theory was a digital download the same time it was uncracked). People just keep crying rootkit and other bullshit until publishers couldn't take the bashlash.
You even got evlncrn8 on that page (look for his posts on this forum)... backed up by the Daemon Tool devs.. saying specifically against the argument of rootkit or anything of the sort.
Now they use SecuROM STILL despite it having backlash and being a poorer protection so it's just a case of SF being a small company unable to correctly establish itself as the market leader as it should have been.
