There is this beta-crack(don't know how to call it), seems russian but has skidrow files(SKIDROW.ini, Steamclient.dll, steam_api.dll), the thing is you have to have them steam unlocked game files in your steam folder, you need to ask a friend who bought the game to give you his account, after you join his steam, play the game once, turn off the game, logout/turn off steam, put the crack/those files in game dir. and it works without steam.
Friend tested it and it works.

If a friend gives you access to his legit Steam account with Sleeping dogs on it, you can install, play it once, then set Steam to offline mode and play. I would guess this crack uses that in some way.

I don't really know how this shit works, but after using this method you can play the game even without steam turned on. Seems that when you first play the game with legal account, the protection generates/triggers some shit and goes into lets say "sleep mode" and after applying that crack you can play without steam.
No really, don't know how it's working and why, but it does work.

No. The game will be properly activated for that PC and that PC only ( I guess), and then the Skidrow files just make it so you don't need Steam running.
The protection still wouldn't be cracked.

maybe when being ran for the frist time on a new machine it writes some kind of hardware code or something. somebody should perform that procedure running filemon / regmon or similar tools to see what's going on when the game is being run for the frist time on a new machine
I definitely like the look of the game so far, though the M/K controls are hideous The mouse feels really sluggish and the choice of parkour controls is just baffling. Oh well... another game built for gamepad, I guess.
I've got the game running with everything on maximum *except* SSAA as even even "High" AA causes some framerate hits, especially during that house walkthrough in the benchmark. So aside from mblur (sorry KC ) and SSAA, it's all running max and locked at 60. Great stuff!
Steam uncrackable etc. etc. It's like childhood - you'll sleep one more time and crack will appear
you probably missed an episode sir, the problem isn't Steam it's the extra layer in addition to Steam (metafortress they seem to call it...)
this extra layer might be cracked soon though... even though if they were lazy hackers would wait for hitman release date to release both , instead of releasing this game and face an updated version on Hitman final release
