DRM for a game from 1997? Smart idea.

Funny you should ask that, because my wife asked me to install the same thing for her tonight .. after SHE saw the videos Yeah man, if she wants the epitome of FF7 excellence; get the Bootleg mod (11GB download for the most part) and you're good to go. I'm telling you now though; the HC mod is HC in every fucking sense of the word. Every enemy has double HP and often does double the damage (and then some!) as well as having all new attacks that debilitate the shit out of you. Bosses WILL kick the crap out of you, Emerald Weapon's "Emerald Shoot" does over THIRTY THOUSAND damage.. Newly added bosses (such as Locke/Venus/Theo, the renegade SOLDIER members) will kick your ass like you were a red-headed stepchild.
I mean it. Don't install HC unless you really are prepared -- and even then, if you do install it, make sure you have "Mode Selection" enabled and also that you make backups during install of gjoerulvz HC mod so that you can undo it safely without breaking the game.

That's the fixed mod list, since a lot of the old file links are dead.

alright,thanks for the updated list.
last question: there is no huge rar with all of those mods,one has to d/l all those files off the site,throw it into 1 giant folder and let "Bootleg Configurator 0039" do the rest?

There was one on Demonoid called "FF7 PC High Res Total Remake + Goodies.torrent" -- that's basically the game (all 4 discs) and several gig mod files, you might still need to get a few from filehosts. Sadly Demonoid is down, so you'll have to see if this particular torrent is hosted elsewhere.

Well luckily you can de-select the ISOs from the download.. and just grab the mods themselves, it'll be a damned sight faster than filehosts.

Zero improvements on what might matter the most. Cloud saving?

So, there's no real point getting it over modded version?

None whatsoever. It looks worse and sounds worse.. there's just no point unless you're desperate for "cheevos".

Top = old release
Bottom = new release |
The only noticeable difference is the support for higher resolutions, which ends up giving better graphics in the form of non-stretched models I believe.
Anyway, I would prefer that either Final Fantasy IX, X or XII would get released on the PC, even without any improvements.

That's the status of existing mod support for the new release. In other words; it's not worth it - worse is the forced reliance on cloud saving, unless you're offline. It's simply not worth the money in comparison to the Bootleg Edition.
