In all my naivety I still want to believe that this whole locked backbuffer resolution stuff is one huge misunderstanding and was only presented in the pre-view copies.

one thing you have to remember not everyone has a really expensive gaming rig and sometimes developers want to cater to those people that cant afford that shiny new gfx cards amd and nvidia have so they do stuff like this its not like they didnt admit to it which you guys that are commenting are seeming to claim. just read the article with the statement the author included.
know what? 90% of people won't even notice low resolution
It's like some of people I know - playing the game in autodetected resolution and settings which are terrible.
I am like "WTF MAN CHANGE THOSE OPTIONS" - "It looks fune duh " (while everything is pixelated and stretched
And then I force them to let me change those options to proper res and high settings and they are like "it looks dah some!"

Sadly, every single person in this section will - and already does - notice how poor it looks There's been a rumour that FROM stated they would look into improving the port post-release, but egh... rumours >_>
I am still saying that it IS worth playing even if it looks only console-like on pc.
It is still a spiritual Blade of Darkness sequel to me!

Not really a rumor, the producer said something like that to PC gamer I think in one of their interviews. However, if BAMCO didn't give a shit about the initial work I really doubt they will pay for the next patches (remember, gfwl: expensive as fuck patching, first one is free).

That's why something like adjustable settings was invented long time ago. Low res & details for people with slower rigs and higher for those with better machines.
Some people are s.

I've sadly experienced a contact with such individuals as well.

Well, I guess all of us who play emulated PS2 games on PC won't mind the resolution that much. I just hope the k+m controls are at least "reasonable".
Still can't decide if I want the game to do well or not on the PC tho. If it does badly, the message to japanese developers might be "don't port to the PC, it's not worth it" (bad version) or "next time, make a proper port" (good version).

You cannot into <insert number here>xNative scaling on GSDX's options?
Taking into account that upscaled screen JBeckman posting as something like the final product, i can easily post some 2x or 3x FFX screens that blow it away, except for the polygon count for the models.

Yup.. it always comes back to Bamco who never give a shit about PC gamers.
@Prandur
Speak for yourself mate, I emulate PS2 titles on my PC all the time..... at 2x/3x internal resolution
~edit~
Heh, already beaten to it
Damn, i rmbr playing Wii games on the emu with AA and 1440x900 internal resolution.... so much better it's not even funny...
I'll see if i can get some screenshots of Tales of Symphonia: Dawm of the New World with these settings on later.
i am in no ways a gfx-whore, but!
i find resolution very important, give me an ugly game on pc with low res textures and i will be fine
as long as the gameplay is good AND i can run it @ 60 fps at my monitor´s native res!
Well, thinking back to that quote JB posted earlier, maybe they tried to up the rez but the game ran so horribly on even the most powerful rigs that they decided the shame would be too great to release it like that.

Oh it will run at your native resolution, it just won't render at that. The game upscales to your res from 1024x720. So don't worry about your monitor being out-of-native

thats not what i meant, upscale doesnt count for me, i want it to render and output @ my native res.
i don't know , but aren't the assets the same as the console version so native resolution option would still look shitty , so i don't see how big of a difference would it make.

just wondering
Alan Wake, same assets, diferent shaders and waaaay to different resolution (540p vs 1440p).
Here are some Gamescom screenshots I grabbed from Namco press. No re-compression, just a straight upload.
