Yeah well as stated bevore there are many games on pcsx2 and dolphin that look far superior....
I know its about the gameplay and all yada yada but i dont think i can take that i rly hoped for a good port but this is really atrocious and probably one of the worst ports ever.

A hack similar to the "widescreenfixer" utility would be needed to deal with that resolution scaling stuff but small improvements might be achievable by altering game files or using those injectors for AA and post-processing extras as desired.
They mentioned LUA and that but they're also not going out of their way to help modding even if it's a bit easier with the actual game.
Patches would be needed otherwise but I've no idea what their budget and time allows for, LIVE also has that authentication process before anything can be released further delaying things.

Ok, ill just tell them that i'm not happy the way the game turned out to be.

Why preorder a digital download in the first place? You afraid they could run out of copies?

This thread is funny. For all the bitching about graphics, be aware that I play this game almost every day on a 51" TV (sitting about 7ft away) and not once have I ever looked at the screen and said "DAYUUUUUM that's ugly!"
Far from it actually. The general art direction in the game is stunning. The animation is great too. Trust me, you won't have time to worry about blurry textures as soon as you actually play it. I do agree that the 30FPS cap is disappointing, but again, outside of the known-problem areas like Blighttown (which is actually fixed in the PC version anyway), it's really not an issue at all once you start playing. This is coming from a guy with an i7 4ghz/GTX 670/12gb RAM/256GB DDR setup guy too, so I'm used to 60+ FPS at all times.
Look, I know everyone would have prefered a port that took full advantage of the raw horsepower a PC offers, but when you all signed that petition to plead with FROM to bring Dark Souls to the PC, you did so knowing that the PS3 version is a great game and something worth playing in the first place. FROM literally admitted from the get-go that this would be a straight port of the console version and have been quite forthcoming about all aspects of it. I'm not sure why everyone is getting so butthurt about it now, especially when deep-down, they knew what to expect the moment it was announced. It will be almost exactly the same game as the PS3 version, which in itself is 100000000x better than almost any other game released this generation.
Dark Souls truly is one of my favourite games of all time and I say this with about 25 years of gaming experience, dating back to my first Sinclair Spectrum 48k. It really is the kind of game that genuinely raises the bar and makes other, similar games seem lacklustre in comparison. This really is a case of gameplay before graphics and it'll be a shame if people miss out on it.

So because they were so forth coming telling us "we will serve you exquisite food today, but it will have shit in it" we should eat it up.

Didn't sign any petition.
If they're bringing the game to a platform where the least that's expected from a port is to offer proper resolution support, ignore it and then have their Internet Defense Force claiming that it "isn't that big of a deal since it's the best game evar" they deserve every and any criticism that they're getting.
And you're comparing playing a game on a TV vs on a computer screen?
Nice choice with the 25 years of gaming experience quote, but after that comparison it really doesn't mean shit.

It's the exact same game as the PS3 version, which is exactly what they promised. I'm not trying to be an apologist, but you've got exactly what they said you'd get - a straight port of the game. If that isn't good enough and the PS3 version is so "shit", then maybe you shouldn't have signed the petition in the first place.

I've seen this bogus crap thrown around numerous forums and it's getting on my nerves. Yes they said they were doing a slap dash job but saying that does not make them immune from criticism. Meanwhile I never signed any petition and I have preordered the game. There is no point to playing devil's advocate by defending their what I'd call rather poor choices regarding the port. Lazy port is lazy due to Namco being twats.

Besides I'd like to see the reaction of some of the console durrs that are running their yap on this when and if some huge handheld exclusive made the cross onto a home console but in the exact same fashion of this port...

I have a pretty fucking amazing TV, fully calibrated, 1080p and well... it's 51" inches. At this size, you can certainly spot any and all defects in the image, including jaggies, shit textures etc.. even from 7ft away. Unless i'm intentionally looking for it, I just don't notice it in Dark Souls. The art direction is far more important than overall resolution + texture quality in my eyes anyway.
Oh and I also have the PS3 hooked up to my main HP LP2475W monitor, which is one of the absolute best for colour + image quality. Again, Dark Souls looks great, even though it doesn't use the native resolution for my monitor and i'm sat about 1ft away from the screen. I'd prefer the FOV was a bit wider, but it's certainly not vomit inducing like most games are today.

Apparently the image above is just upscaled without filtering to demonstrate the actual effect, of course if the same is done in-game then that's pretty much how it's going to look anyway.
EDIT: Example was pretty poor now that I checked it myself so I removed it.

I've no idea who that is (I guess it was the poster of that info but I didn't check the user name.) but I checked the comparison myself just now and the difference actual seemed minimal so maybe it was a poor example anyhow.
(I'll just remove that.)

We're all still going to download it any way, and I don't doubt a lot of people will still buy it, but this constant defence of bullshit decisions.. and, worse, the insistence about what OTHER people will or will not see? Yeah... that shit is irritating. First it was the gamepad stuff, now its the rendering.

I wanted to buy this game but I won't. If you can't do this right and don't want to outsource the game to someone else (like Nixxes), then don't do it at all. |
I completely agree with everything you both said. To be perfectly honest, we all expected the visual quality to stay the same.. nobody is complaining about that, we're complaining about the lack of optimisation (Puzl claims Blighttown is fixed, yet Eurogamer and RPG disagree, both claiming that while the game doesn't "chug" it does still have low framerate issues) and the fact that for the first time in over a decade... and even still, probably the first time in PC gaming history, we're being offered a locked framebuffer that will upscale a low-res image onto high-res monitors --- which looks horrible, I don't care how long anyone has been gaming.
We got the game: YAY!
We got rebindable mappings: YAY!
We got a framerate limit: Uh.. 'kay...
We got a port that can't even sustain said limit on high-end hardware: WTF??
We got a 1024x720 framebuffer that will upscale to 1080p/2440p: ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
It's not hard to understand why the majority of people around here are miffed at that. What's weird is that the E3 demo had people claiming there was a SETTING for the framerate, which suggests a limit wasn't always there, so RPS got dev copies that - perhaps - omitted that setting. Or perhaps their versions were based off slightly older code and that would explain the poor performance on i7/680 rigs. Who knows? We'll see when it's launched ... but this pre-launch defence is what annoys people. There's no excuse (ART DIREKSHUN!!) for such lousy treatment.
