Just bought myself a PSP 3004, modded, ready to go.

Recommend me some nice games please, preferably newer.

Thank you! Just played a bit of GoW: Ghost of Sparta. Looks pretty amazing for a PSP game.

I remember liking that Final Fantasy fighting game, there might have been two of them, or a remix or something...

Phantasy Star Portable 1/2 were pretty nice, Final Fantasy Tactics remake was nice (has mp!)

I'll have to charge my PSP later to see what's still on the memstick. Wink

That's great and all, but can you make a spreadsheet with scores, average game lengths, multiplayer and if it's not too much trouble with screenshots?

many huge titles but 90% sucks big time. did you guys really play gta series on a psp? seriously - those games are barely playable with the controls layout. chinatown wars should also be played on a NDS instead of PSP.

tekken - another huge game title even not worth being mentioned in a best of psp list

wipeout? come on - if you ever enjoyed wipeout series on a ps1/ps2 you should be ashamed with the psp release

i agree to disagree with above list.

I've played and finished them all -- well a few were in-progress when I gave my brother my PSP, but I've played enough of them to recommend to anyone. Again; nobody cares. Either contribute to the thread or get lost.

well my contribution - use it as an emulation platform - especially psx emulation! gran turismo 1 and 2 is perfecty emulated and so much better than the psp GT release

psp games:
- locoroco
- lumines
- megaman series
- patapon series

why were the last ones (patapon) not even mentioned in your list???? best games ever released for psp

I agree to disagree with your list. I don't like puzzle games, Patapon and Locoroco are grossly overrated and I prefer the SNES/PS1 MegaMan X titles to the later PSP ones.. which is why I didn't put the PSP versions on my list Smile

overrated? well those are games which weren't impacted with "the missing 2nd psp thumbstick" syndrome Very Happy

The vast majority of the games I posted didn't need the 2nd thumbstick. The early GTA games didn't have general camera controls anyhow - you had to press select/etc to switch to camera, so the second stick wasn't used there -- and the rest? Egh, mostly RPGs which is what I prefer Smile The only game that really could have done with the stick would have been Resistance, I guess, or the God of War games when it comes to rolling/dodging. Oh and PSP/PSP2 would have been nice to have a workable camera instead of pressing L-trigger to face the direction .... but then, like GTA, the original PSO/PSU titles had the same thing.

+friggin' infinity. manu_xl is also right about that; the PSP is at its very best when used as an emulation platform. It has native support for PS1 titles and the vast majority (I'd say an easy 90%) work, then you've got SNES9x and Picodrive/DGen as well as VBA-M and many, many others. It's a great little platform especially your 3k series which has the double RAM and better d-pad compared to the original 1k PSP.

I see Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is in the list. That game alone made it worth getting my PSP. I have put so many hours into that game, it's not funny. And I never got to the hardest monsters to this day..
It even convinced me to buy a Wii for MH:Tri. Tho that made me feel a bit silly for a while, since I never got something else really good till Xenoblade.

I'd add:

Burnout series
Manhunt
Daxter
Sid Meyer's Pirates! (if you've never played it on PC)
SOCOM series if you like dumbed down shooters with no challenge
The Warriors if you loved the movie
Midnight Club games if you want good racing
Silent Hill Origins

Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube

Oooh, I'd forgotten about Pirates! That game is really enjoyable, even the handheld version, so if you're not at your PC all the time then it's a good addition.

Well, seeing as this thread is not used as much, I've decided to hijack it for some hacking advice, hope Rage doesn't mind. Very Happy

So, i got a PSP 2004 with 5.00 M33. Not sure what that means but I assume it's old vers.

The thing is, some games won't boot properly. Some will give me a black screen after the PSP logo, and stay that way until I reboot it, while other just reboot the PSP after a few secconds. An there are also a few that won't start and give an error, this error: "The game could not be started (80020148)".

So I thought I should update the cfw, and maybe that will fix those - 5.00 M33 seems pretty old seeing there are old PSPs with 5.50 M33-n). I found some guides to upgrade to PRO CFW but I don't know if that's the proper course of action for the current CFW or upgrading to something like 5.50 M33-6 for instance.

I've heard about some hack that needs to be reinstalled after every console reboot, is that this latest CFW PRO?

So should I go with the CFW PRO or the older one...? Confused
